Not too bad of a trip! Sam and I caught the largest fish of our lifetimes, and had Bob not lost one large one he probably would have also had a life-time best. Here are the vital statistics (note, the weights are estimates from an average weight chart) of the white sturgeon that we caught:
Sam:
46 inches 29 pounds
63 inches 74 pounds
67 inches 90 pounds
71 inches 107 pounds
78 inches 142 pounds
Bob:
46 inches 29 pounds
53 inches 44 pounds
56 inches 52 pounds
Kent:
58 inches 58 pounds
63 inches 74 pounds
72 inches 111 pounds
77 inches 137 pounds
85 inches 185 pounds
88 inches 204 pounds

[black]Sam had three break off, and Bob and I both lost two large ones while we were reeling them to the boat. We lost one rod and reel and two boat anchors. We were having our crawlers stolen often, so using 20 pound Fire Line, I tied on a second size 4 hook and less than ½ of a crawler. I was surprised when I reeled in the next sturgeon to find it hooked on that small hook and light line! Fun guys to fish with, and another fun sturgeon outing.

Sorry, but I didn't have any pictures of Rob's fish.[/black]

Hey Kent,
Great fish ! I wish I had been in a position to accept the offer to go. I've never caught any fish larger than me before. I'm not sure if I would be able to land one that was over 200 lbs.

It can take up to about 1/2 hour to bring a large one to the boat. That is fishing with 80 pound test line. It will take much longer if one fishes with lighter line.

You know kent, I would love to go do that with you one day, you have consistently been on the fish and have obviously got it down.
But, I tell you what, those pics look COLD!
winter coats and dark waters. Brrrrrrr.
Makes me shiver just thinking about it.
Congrats on the great trip.

At just under 2,500 feet it is actually much warmer there than anywhere that we fish in Utah. However, Saturday when that temperature dropped, and with a steady wind blowing, it was on the cold side. I see from a weather site that the high on Saturday was only 52 degrees.

Kent,
WOW, some nice BIG fish! I don't think my arm would hold out reeling one of those big ones for a half hour.

Thanks Kent for another great trip!!! I was a little disappointed that I did'nt catch one over a 100lbs and I did'nt get one jumping with the video camera... we had several big ones come out of the water but I was'nt ready for them. It is a thrill to see a 200 lb fish come completely out of the water and shake it's head while standing on top of the water with it's tail. I guess I will just have to go again!!!!!
Thanks again Kent!!!!!

Good Report Kent - looks like your adding experince to your sturgeon fishing credentials.
Give us the details on the lost rod & reel and two anchors [ ]
Note: I was driving acrossed Southern Idaho during the "BIG" wind & dust storm that blew down those trees and colapsed your tent. Boy that was the worst dust storm to drive in ever - I drove for 100 miles before getting into the rain. I never knew that much dust was in Idaho.

The last two trips we have lost a rod and reel on each trip. Both times they were on top of the bimini cover after landing a sturgeon. One got knocked off, and in the other situation someone made a cast and hooked them as they made their cast. Two anchors tied together on the same rope got wrapped around the prop of the outboard. It was my fault for not letting the guy on the bow know that the rear anchor was still down, before he pulled up the bow anchor. The wind was picking up and Sam was talking about going into the water to untangle the anchor ropes. I said, "cut the anchor rope". Anchor ropes can be replaced (and large rocks work great in the mean time) fisherman's lives cannot as easily be replaced.
