I have a portable fish finder that I use on my kayak. Has anybody here used rechargeable batteries with their finders on the tubes or tunes? Mine will eat 8 double AA batteries in about 8 hours.

I USE A SMALL SEALED 12 V BATTERY FOR MINE. YOU CAN BUY THEM AT SPORTSMANS AND THE CHARGER ALSO. MY BATTERY LAST A COUPLE OF DAYS ON MY FINDER BEFORE I NEED TO CHARGE IT. THEY ARE THE SAME BATTERIES USED IN ALARM SYSTEMS AS TEH BACK UP BATTERY. I KNOW RADIO SHACK SALES THEM ALSO

I have the small 12 V battery, however my kayak is a tight fit to begin with, and I have it loaded now, and don't really need that much more weight in it. Are you using a 12 V in a boat or tube or...?
I may have to suck it up and use the 12V'er...

A standard "gel cell" is about 7"X4"X2.5" and weighs maybe 3 lbs. Well worth your investment when space and weight is an issue.. I run mine year round and often get well over 2 days on a single charge while ice fishing.. And as mentioned they can be picked up at several locations such as Sportsman's for around 20 bucks.
PS.. no risk of spillage with a gel cell

Sealed 12V lead-acid batteries come in a variety of sizes. Try a store like battery specialists in SLC. You can get some very small rechargables that will last a lot longer than AA's. As far as rechargable AA's, my experience with them is they don't last nearly as long as their alkaline counterparts. MRJ.

I would suggest looking at the smaller gel cells as was mentioned earlier. Depending on where you live, Batteries Plus is another option.

Two cents from the pennyfarmer.
I would go with the small 12v gel cell. I put mine in a very small tacklebox along with my FF monitor, then I am ready when the fish call. So if you have room for 2 beers or sodas then you have room for a battery. These batteries are very nice and inexpensive. I am not sure how much the charger is at sportsmans but I bought a 12v charger at Walmart (I really hate to give them a plug) for about $8 and it works perfectly. Total into a nice battery set up for about $30.
