Fished the west side near the dam from shore. Caught and released 7 nice smallies. Ranging from 9-14 inches. some of the 13 and 14 inchers were very fat and healthy. I was using sinking black rapala, i lost my 2 rainbow sinking on the provo last week. No trout which i was hoping for. I am excited for next year to see those smallies get into the 2 and 3 pound range. I caught a smallie earlier this year that was around 3 1/2 lbs, so i know there are big ones in their. Anyone had any sucess for the wallies?

Thanks for posting your report. We haven't been seeing many from DC lately, I think the last one I saw was the one you posted. If any of the guys are catching walleye they are keeping it to themselves. WH2

i tried for some walley action on friday for about 15 minutes, with a big green and orange jig. i dont know really how to catch walleye on D.C. I have caught a few this year but mostly small compared to the ones i caught at utah lake this year. If anyone out there has any tips on D.C. walleyes that would be flippin sweet.

[cool][#0000ff]This is the time of year that walleyes begin their cold water migration to deeper regions. They move out into deeper water along the steep banks on the north side (below the tracks) moving toward the dam. They ultimately turn left, at a big point, and move out into water over 60 feet deep off the south side (out from the highway). [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Once the walleyes "winterize", it is tough to find them and catch them on Deer Creek. Since they lay right on the bottom, they often do not show up on sonar. You just about need an aqua view camera to verify they are even in the vicinity. But, even if you find them, catching them is another matter. Only the most skillful (and lucky) vertical jigger seems to be able to get them to "yawn" while a jig is in front of their face.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have not even fished winter walleyes on Deer Creek for many years. However, in the early years when ice fishing was first allowed on Deer Creek, and there were a lot of perch, I caught several walleyes through the ice in about 30 to 40 feet of water while spooning for perch. I am sure that the walleyes were there because the perch were there...the predator and prey thing.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]From now until the walleyes reverse their migration in the spring, and move along the north and west shorelines toward the Provo River to spawn (in April), it is tough to find and catch them. Sometimes there is some good prespawn activity along the rocks below the tracks...along with some good rainbows...on jigs.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I posted up this attachment before. It is a writeup I did a couple of years ago with the help of a couple of our BFT walleye pros.[/#0000ff]

insomnia is killing me. didnt sleep last night decided to hit the D.C. before school this morning. fished same spot, did terrible, wind was about 10-15 miles an hr and freezing. got there around 6:45 a.m. threw out the usuall rapala had five quick hits and caught one smallie. wind kicked up around 7:15 then everything shutoff. managed to hook a really nice rainbow but my damn brand new rapala didn't take hold, oh wait it was probably the operators fault. did manage one small 12 inch rainbow planter. busted out the walleye assasin for kicks no luck just one smallie nailed it as i was drawing it out of the water. hurried off the lake for my 10:00 class, to find out it was canceled, dam i could have froze my ass off for another hr. 2 total fish day, cant remember a day that low in months, there goes the catch average a couple of points.
