quail creek or sand hollow?

any boby been to either one lately? how's the catchin' at either place? wondering if it's worth the drive up from vegas this weekend. i guess going to utah and getting skunked is still better than sittin' in vegas all weekend[

Did you make it up to either lake this weekend? They are so close to each other that I would think you could hit both in a weekend. I'm sure you know that Quail creek has the larger fish but there are more fish in Sand Hollow. WH2

No i wasn't able to make it. i kinda got addicted to football this weekend. i usually do hit 'em both when i go and i do get larger fish at quail but the last few times i went i've had more success at sand hollow. i haven't been able to get up there since august though and so i don't really know how the bite has been as of late. hopefully i'll get up next sunday and make the trip and some bass will still be biting. if not i guess i could always try for some planter bows at quail huh? if i do make it i'll post a report and i now have all the stuff i need to start posting some pics too[
 ] so if i get some good ones i'll throw 'em up on here for y'all. if anybody goes to either place in the meantime, let me know how the fishing, and catching, is at either place please. i will be on the shore or in my tube(tube mostly. why shore fish if ya have a tube right?)[signature]

It must be a long drive, especially if you don't know how the fishing is. We haven't seen many reports from Southern Utah lately at least from the Saint George area.
From CBR and Bassrod's report on Powell it sounds like the bass have the feed bag on there, I would think Quail creek and Sand Hollow would be in the same boat. Topwater might be the way to go. WH2 [signature]

thanx wh2, not that long of drive, i can do it in 1 1/2 hours but with gas being sooo much and spent a lot of my last several weekends in slc and stuck at work on the others i havent made the trip in a while. i was going every weekend during april through july and the fishin was as good as i could have asked for. but gas is 20 to 25 cents more a gallon here than it is up there and since i'm poor and spend most of my money at the bass pro shop here, i kinda have to pick and choose lately when to take a road trip. it's funny i live in vegas but i've been fishing in northern utah 5 times since i made it to the southern lakes[angelic] I'm from slc and only been in vegas a year. i go home as often as i can to see my kids, family, friends and the fishies not nessicerily in that order[
] if all things work out i'll go to st. george on sunday and let ya know how it's going. then it's of to salt lake for a float tube trip on the weekend of nov. 5th. i'll post on that too.[signature]

When I lived in "Sin City" I did very well at Quail creek for LMB in October (albeit, usually a little smaller size fish). That was before Sand Hollow was available, but I bet both would fish well right now. Also, don't overlook the Overton arm of Lake Mead, for both LMB and Stripers, especially if you have a boat available or want to hike a little bit. Now is also a good time to visit the Valley of Fire, right by Overton, for a family trip. Let us know how you do.

bassrods, i've never fished mead. i didn't even get a nevada liscense when i moved here. i just stuck with utah. seems to me you need a boat to get to the best places out there and the closest thing i have is a tube. i guess i'm still tryin to hang on to at least one thing that makes me a utahn[angelic][angelic][angelic][angelic][
 ]. plus st. george and the so. utah lakes are close enough that it's not much more of a trip than mead and i have some some honey holes at quail and sand hollow and i don't know jack squat about mead, but i'm planning on learning it a little bit, from what i hear there is some pretty good striper fishing from the shore in early spring when they plant trout. i've talked to a few people who say any type of swim bait that looks like a fingerling bow will bring 'em in so i think my first mead trips will be aroound that time next season.[signature]

hey doggone, thanx for the advice on mead, i do wanna try to get there some time. can i hike a tube in at the overton arm? when you used to do well at quail in october what tactics did you use? this is really my first year of fishing for largemouths and i'm not all that familliar with their patterns. are they back up in the shallows after going deeper from the summer heat? i have had luck with senkos either wacky or texas rigged just bouncin' and draggin' the bottom. shallower at sand hollow than at quail. they seem a loty deeper at quail since the may/june heat started. i'm a learnin' a lil bit about 'em but still have a lot to figure out. any advice? i know bassrods is the man for largemouth knowledge perhaps he will have some info to help a rookie who is now addicted to lmb's.

Hemenway harbor is where I used to go, and if the evening is calm, it is ideal for a float tuber. You can also use live threadfin shad there, which was quite effective for me. Government wash also has bow plants and has some good access, both from shore and in a tube. [/size]
[size 1][/size] [size 1] In October, my successful outings were with spinnerbaits. I would imagine plastics would be effective too. In going back through the mental archives, the only caveat was that many of the fish were smaller, (7-10 in) and maybe bigger finesse baits would hookup a better sized fish. I will defer to the bass experts on that. I also hit it before the air temps got real cold. (up to the deer hunt) and didn't fish it, that I recall, in November. For Overton, some coves can be driven to in a car, and a tube launched, but I often used to hike between points of structure and fish from shore. This was real good in the spring and early summer. I would start at the Overton launch and head north. In the fall, I did best if I could find a steep drop off. A boat would be best this time of year for LMB at Mead. [/size] [signature]

man thanx for the tips doggone. i really wanna try mead if i can get some stripers from shore or tube. i didn't realize they planted it again in the fall. i was talking to some guys on the nevada board on this site early this spring and thats where i got my info but the nevada site is pretty inactive and i rarely check it anymore since i do all my fishing in utah.
so where are hemenway harbor and government wash in relation to henderson? i wouldn't mind taking a quick trip to either spot if i can shore fish or tube. i'm just so unfamilliar with mead that i don't even know where to start or what to try so i haven't even taken the time to attempt it. if i go to mead i want to target stripers. i've never fished for them and would love to add them to my ever expanding list of species caught.
