Jordanelle Pea Soup Smallies
#1
What a beautiful day for fishing. Calm water and warm temperatures and CBR and I just can't stand the thought of not taking advantage of some super fall fishing patterns at Jordanelle.

The water looked like thin pea soup...with a bright green algae bloom floating everywhere.

After some elimination of unproductive water, we honed in on the structure and depth holding some nice sized smallies. Pictures to follow.

Fall fishing presents a different kind of challenges. What works during the heat of the summer or coolness of spring doesn't always work in late fall.

We started off with crankbaits and drop shots...with Senko's. No responses. We tried a few plastics...nothing...but soon zero'd in on the Mojo Rockhopper. This was the trick...slowly dragging the hopper through the rocks and brush. We got immediate hook ups.

We fished for 5 hours and caught 9 fish. Eight smallies and 1 slimer.

A slow day...but still relatively productive...and any day fishing beats a day working or being a couch potato.

If the weather holds...we'll be on the water again soon. If not...there's always ice fishing.

Nice fish, for this time of year I'd say you guys did great. How deep were the fish holding? WH2

They were along the line where the slime line ends in the water about 10' to 15' .
We tried the same lures in different ways but they liked it the MOJO way for the right movement.

Thanks for the info, although I don't fish for SM most of the time, a friend of mine from work has been telling me that they are hanging deeper at Pineview, 20 to 30 ft. So I was just curious if Jordanelle was different, I guess it is. WH2

Some was deeper but that was a starting point and deeper.

Nice trip. I thought you were done for the season with knee surgery. How did that go... recovering well?

I thought I was done for the season, but where there's a will, there's a way.

Well I now have two artifical knees and I just had to get out and do some fishing before I drove my wife nuts. It's a bit painful...but doable...and it helps the mobility as well.

I'm really glad to be back on the water...[Smile]
