Fished Strawberry today with cableguy. We didn't break any records but we did manage to catch a few and a couple over the slot.

Yep, Eric, although both of them were over the slot they are still swimming. However, had we hooked any rainbows they would have been invited home with us.

Had a good time. I got to see the live pointer in action as well. It didn't catch the most fish but it did catch the biggest fish.

Cableguy,
Have to agree that I have had a faster catching with other lures, but them pointer always seem to catch the bigger fish.
Kent,
Its getting closer to an ice fishing rematch. We'll have to make it a series.

Hey Kent,
Did you catch those slot +'s on pointers ? If so, Which pointers were you using size/pattern ? And mostly, how did you afford them things ? 2nd mortgage - sale of first born child - knock over a bank ? Win the lottery ?
Those are the kind of lures a person uses when they have a LOT of confidence in the knots they tie.

We didn't take the time to weigh them. Mine was about 22 3/4" and I believe Jim's was about 22 1/2". Mine was one of those rare ones that was really heavy.

I caught mine on my second cast of the day with a Live Pointer. I used a Ghost Minnow and was about 4" long. It was one of the expensive ones that I purchased at Sportsman's (although I have heard that they are even more expensive at Cabela's). Jim caught his on a white tube. He was getting far more bites on a white tube, tipped with a crawler, than I was fishing with the Pointers. I recently purchased six Live Pointers for a total price of $69 off of eBay. Sorry, can't reveal my secret funding source.
It was a strange day in that I caught my first fish on my second cast and didn't get another hit casting the shoreline. I got an immediate hit (lost it of course because of my lousy drag problem) when I started vertically jigging and never got another hit vertically jigging the rest of the day. Immediately, caught a fish after dropping a Jake's Spin a Lure down my line (between my rod and the downrigger) while trolling, and never got another hit on the lure. Jim caught the fish above on his first cast when we stopped at the last place that we tried and never got another hit.

Kent,
I caught a cutt last friday that was 23 inches and wieghed 4 lbs. Looked just like that cutt of yours. Big belly and some shoulders. I released him right after he agreed to meet me on the ice this winter.[cool]
