Which side do you look at first when you go in?
If you look at the warmwater side ... you'll notice some pale looking largemouth bass. Big Ones. Guess where these badboys came out of ...

The one that has the least amount of people, but i think that it was the one on the right hand side. but the display that i like the most is the open ponds with the big trout swimming in it that you look down upon

My friend, that I fish with a lot raises tropical fish and whole sales them to Pets Mart, was with me in Cabela's a few times and the fish look bad. I don't know if most people would recognize Ick, but it is a fish desease that gets in aquariums and spreads fast. We talked to them about it and they are trying to get it under control. Look real close at the bass. They have little white spots on them. Not good. Check it out. The trout have it to but not as bad.

Just curious- Anyone else a little disappointed in Cabela's from a "store" standpoint? I enjoy the extra attractions, don't get me wrong there. I drove all the way from No. Ogden to pick up a few things and spend the day "checking it out". They had 1 of the 10 items I was looking for. These weren't wacko items either. Of course, they could order them all, but with the price of gas these days, I might as well just ship them from the website.
Besides taking my kids every now and then, I'm afraid the store part disappointed me and I will stick with my local Sportsman's warehouse. Anyone else share this kind of experience? Also, their dang prices are higher in the store than on their website by 5-10%!! Not cool at all.
Edit: Sorry, I must update that they did have 3 of my 10 items. They had 9 "in the computer" of item, yet nobody knew where they were. The other item was $49 in the "bargain cave", yet $39 on their website. This wasn't too long ago either, plenty of time to be caught up from opening up a store like that.
Anyway, overall I was very disappointed.

[cool][#0000ff]I thought maybe I was just bein' picky when I made the same observation after my first (and only) trip there. I also went with a list and did not find anything on it at the store. What's worse is that everytime I asked someone to help me find something I got "an attitude".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Because I make most of my own lures, there are quite a few things I buy off the internet that I just can't get at retail tackle outlets. I was hoping I could at least get my normal Cabelas stuff at their store, but NOPE.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I don't hunt anymore, so their hunting gear is mostly lost on me. Truthfully, I did not see anything in their fishing line that I can't get...usually cheaper...at Sportsmans. The closest Sportsmans store is within 10 minutes of where I live, usually has plenty of parking within reasonable distance of the door and it doesn't take me 15 minutes to get checked out and another 15 minutes to work my way back to the freeway.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Great "spectacle" but not my favorite place to shop for fishin' goodies.[/#0000ff]

I was dissapointed, when i made the long trip there i had one item in mind, and of course they were out of it, and finding a person to verify that they were out of it was a joke.
The store was cool for about an hour, then it was just boring, the mounts are nice, but i reciently was in the animal muesem in st. george and i was much more impressed by the animals there.
But i did find the design for my next bed so it wasnt all for not

I'm with you. I love the spectacle, but the prices and selections are far worse that I expected. I was trying to spend a little birthday money and was in both SW and cabelas and all of the three or four different items I was looking at sportsmans had better selection and better prices. I'm hoping over time the fishing department will change via customer requests to reflect tackle needs for local waters a little better

I haven't been down there yet....I don't think my wife would appreciate all the things that would accidentally jump into my basket! I do need to get down there though just to see all the stuff.

I have noticed the lack of product/variety, high prices, and employees who are too busy working/talking/walking to be of any use.
I live in Lehi and have been to the store several times. I have come away empty handed the majority of times. They have had a few items that were cheaper than Sportsmans, but not many.
My son needed a pair of black pants for a livestock show. Ran up to Cabelas...Not a pair of black pants in the store? Carhart stock just no black.
I went back to Cabelas three weeks in a row for a scope that was out of stock. Finally offered to call me when the scope came in...Still waiting for the call. (in stock at Sportsmans)
On another occasion I needed a somewhat uncommon scope mount. I got bad advice/wrong mount from Cabelas, and the price was $5 more than Sportsmans. Sportsmans had three guys going through books looking for the right mount. Set me up right.
Is it just me or is the ice fishing section terribly understocked? Big dissapointment. I had such hopes!
Fly fishing section? Love that area. Nice selection. Prices alittle high.
Outdoor cooking/smokers. Love that area too.
Aquariums? Oh yea, they do have those. Checked them out the first time in. Nice, just not my thing. Pale bass...probably came from Utah Lake. UTBASS probably brought them in?
Over all - definitely glad Cabelas is there. Not the end all in sporting goods stores, but very nice addition. Competition will be a good thing.
I'm not pro Sportsmans or Cabelas. I will continue to use both.
Cabelas - closer to home.
Sportsmans - right on the way home from work.
Hooked - out of the way, but an excellent option.
REI - went there once, just cant find a reason to go back...
Just a few of my observations...

They came from a muddy puddle in my back yard. I fed them steroids and bull testicles daily.
Really, I am stoked to target those creamy greenies this spring in the big mud puddle.

[#505000]I'm going to have to mirror your experience. When I went there with a little play money I was only able to find a handful of things I needed/wanted and found most of what I was looking for was not there. The prices were a little high for me too. I'll go back butmore likely to look at stuff then to buy.[/#505000]

[#505000]I love the aquarium (Bass Pro Aquariums are way better) and the mounted critters but Sportsman's is much much closer to my house, closer parking, better prices ect......[/#505000]

[cool][#0000ff]When are you going to make your "stock up" trip to my jig department? I thought you had some things you needed.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Back to Cabelas. I was not even successful with the "biblical" system...SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND. Pretty "generic" stock, with not a lot for the advanced angler or the specialist.[/#0000ff]

I was told that if you want other things, that if you will fill out a request slip at the help desk that they will try to stock it, they are trying to get feed back so the next time you are in there fill out the paper it mite help.
