Regualtion Changes For 06
#1
I have heard of Pineview lowering it's 15" smallmouth limit to 12" ... This would be great! Have you guys heard anything else huge coming down the pike?

I think Pineview has a lot of smallie potential. There were a few rough years for the little fish when they were working on the dam, but I think we'll see a "boom" of fish here reall soon now.

I heard that they are going to change Rockport's smallmouth to 6 fish with no size limit.

There are so many small smallies in the 10-12inchers that I think that would be a great new reg.

I think the pineveiw regs are backwards.
Theres a ton of little guys in there that cannot be kept and the regs only allow for the bigger mature bass to be harvested, as a result, the big girls get thinned out and the runts have the run of the place.
The big fish to small fish ratios are all screwed up now.
Lowering the limit to a 12 inch minimum will just kill more of the decent fish.

I wish they would have left it at the 15 inch mark but reversed it so that anything 15 or over had to go back. Let them keep the 8 - 12 inchers and protect the fish who made it to adulthood.

It will be nice on one hand for the tourrnament fishing. Since it will allow for weighable events, and many more clubs will fish there.

Another change for 2006 will be that your fishing license will be good for one year from the date of purchase.
I think that it will help to increase the total license sales for the year.

[cool]That's a good idea, Dale. I'm glad to hear that they are doing that. It seems to work great for the parks pass.

Ever since they changed the State parks pass to be good for one year from date of purchase, I've wondered why they don't do it to all license. I hope they will do it on the second pole permit also. WH2

So I'd like to know how will they work that out with a combination (small game/fishing) license? Does that mean that the small game hunting license will also be valid from the date of purchase for one year?

Or does that mean that there will be no more "combination" license? Or will the fishing part be valid for 1 year but the hunting one just for the calendar year?

It's got me stumped.

I have to agree with Predator the fish to take are the small ones and let the bigger ones go.

I also agree that the small ones are the fish to keep, but the DWR has to try and please everybody. There are to many people that complain that a fish smaller than 12 inches is to small to eat.

Will they ever learn that when they allow people to keep the larger fish, they will get thinned out so bad that in the end they'll be stuck with small stunted fish anways.

Maybe they should try applying a slot limit to bass waters up north so everyone is pleased.

No the risen is that they know that if the bass fishing stays bad that they hope this will stay a trout state, with only trout hatchures.
look at how the lakes are run, with feeder fish both the trout and bass and the walleyes can all be made into a great fishery.
If we can get the DWR to for get about trying to bring back only the cuts and suckers.
