Gosh TD, I guess no one wants to wager a guess after you've expressed your expert opinion. Seriously though, I thought when I posted this that you would pick it up right away.

Species: Red Tail Surfperch
Weight: 3.21 lbs
Caught: Southern Washington Beach

This was one of about 20 I caught on my first attempt at surfperch fishing. Most of the ones I caught were probably one lb. or under, but got lucky with this pig. Anyone who hasn't tried this NEEDS TO. It was some of the funnest fishing I've ever had. You stand out in the surf and get smacked over and over with the waves, you're soaking wet, my bait kept coming out of my pocket and floating away. You're constantly watching for those really big waves that knock you on your butt. AND all the while these fiesty little guys are slamming your line, and I do mean SLAMMING! It's a great bite and an even better fight!

And yes, this one was battered, fried and VERY delicious!

[cool][#0000ff]Love those redtails. I have taken a bajillion of them all the way from northern California, up through Oregon and into Washington. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]They are great on a flyrod, when weather and water conditions are right. They also hit small plastics on spinning tackle.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Makes me yearn for them thar beaches. Also got lots of good clams and hung some inshore steelies and searun cutts in some places up there too.[/#0000ff]
