Everyone has heard of catfish, but have you ever heard of the dog salmon? Another name for it is the chum salmon, but it's often called a dog salmon because of its dog-like teeth. That's what I learned last week when I went fishing up near Seattle. The attached pix will tell the rest of the story.

[cool][#0000ff]It is also called dog salmon because it is considered inferior to the sockeye, silver and chinook salmon for human consumption. Large numbers of these pinks were harvested and frozen to be tossed to the sled dogs for food during the winter months.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]They are great fighters on light tackle though and they hit a lot of different flies and lures.[/#0000ff]

When it was hooked, it felt more like the back bumper of a truck driving away than a little ol' dog. These chum salmon are apparently famous for their strength.
