Last soft water trip to Lake X

[cool][#0000ff]Part of my fishing schedule for the next little while included a last soft water trip to Jordanelle. TubeBabe and I Launched at the PWC ramp just after 7 AM. Air temp 22 degrees and water temp 46...down three degrees from the previous Saturday.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We threw a lot of assorted jigs and spinners from 5' to 50' without a tap. I moved over to the steep brushy banks to the west and served up a variety of goodies over there. Still nada, zip, zip. I did occasionally get a bitty bite...more like casual bumps. I figured they were some of the planter bows. The bank tanglers were bringing in a few as I left that area.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Kicked over to the quarry area. Had several deer watching me from the trees. I can only imagine what they thought. Kept pitching and reeling, trying different offerings. Didn't see much on sonar and saw even less on the end of the line. TubeBabe admitted, on the walkie talkie, that she was fishless too.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Came to the spot I caught a 14" brown last week, while fishing with Kent. Tied on the same little white jig and let 'er rip. Bounced it down a gravel slope from about 12 feet to about 22 feet. When it was directly below me I had a tug. Set the hook into a feisty 14" smallmouth. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]At first I thought it might be a trout, but hoped it was a walleye. I lost one in that area last spring. Happy to see the silly smallie. I am sure he hit that small jig just to get to see the wierdo who would serve him up something like that. Surprised to find one so "shallow". I figured they would all be in deeper water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Several more bitty bumps and that was it. TubeBabe finally got the hook into one of the pesky planters, and it was released to upset the bank tanglers. They were picking one up on bottle baits occasionally, but all quite small.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We were off the water by noon, and it was still like glass. Only started to get a little wind riffle as we drove off. Beautiful morning for fishing, but not great for catching. Only one silly smallie away from skunkdom.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Interesting theory. Mine is that he has been caught (and released) before and did not fear for his life. He was amused by the dinky jig I was using and just wanted a ride to the surface to get a look at the dude fishing it. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As you probably know, I did send him back to tell his story to the other guys. I'll bet it was a good one. He probably never saw a "bass boat" like mine before.[/#0000ff]
