Huntington report 11/24
#1
Fished Huntington this morning from 7 to 10 AM with my two kids, dad, brother, brother in law and his two kids, and a friend and his two kids. Met up with Bugln4bulls and his boy and two others. So we had quite the crowd up there and all had a good time. Temp was 25 degree's upon arrival and there is about 4 inches of good clear ice (it is much closer to 4 inches than 6 inches as was reported in another thread....At least where we were fishing). When the sun hit the ice it got really noisy and was popping and cracking like crazy. If two large adults came too close to each other it would crack under your feet and really make you pucker![shocked] We all had ice picks and plenty of ropes just in case.....

We fished with white jigs tipped with mealys and had good success. Water depth ranged from 15-18 feet. The fish definetely came by in schools and were not very agressive. Often saw many of the finder with no takers or a quick hit and then gone. You had to be fast on the trigger to hook up. We probably averaged 10 fish each for the adults who were actively fishing and a few caught by the kids when they were not "ice skating" and playing around on the slick ice. Most were 14-16 inches with a few to 18 inches and a few 12 inchers. Beautiful fish! We brought a few home for the dinner table and the meat is very orange like salmon. They will taste good tomorrow! I hope everyone going up tomorrw has a safe and fun time catching lots of fish!

Thanks for the report BigCat. Bugln4Bulls called me yesterday and updated me on the conditions and the catching. He said your party did very well and his party almost as good as yours and you all enjoyed some good catching.

[cool]Nice report, Bigcat! Sounds like a good time was had by all, and you got a nice dinner out of it as well. I can't wait to hit that place tomorrow, although by the sounds of the weather report, we might want to take the shelters with us. Supposed to get 2-3 feet of snow in the mountains between Friday night to Sunday a.m. Glad CBR just got an SUV! We might need the 4x4 to get up there. Fairview Canyon is pretty steep. Should be a BLAST!!!

I'm sure the reports from the BFT icetilla today will be favorable with fun had by all and plenty of fish caught. I also an watching the forcast closely because I have family members leaving tomorrow for both CA and CO. I hope you are able to get your fishing trip in so that you can get your ice fishing fix. Fairview canyon and along skyline drive up there could be a bear in a snow/wind storm. Be careful and good luck. I'll look forward to your report.
