Anyone have any suggestions on the best ice fishing line to use? I have a couple of reels I want to use this year so I can string up a couple different tests. Any takers?

Sportsman's spooled some 4# magna thin for me last year. I also tried Berkley ice line, also in 4#. Both worked very well. I got the ice line from James at Hooked.
Stay with 4# for the ice for the best all around fishing. Go larger for the big boys at Fish Lake or the Gorge. [signature]

DKS is right. 4-pound is great for the ice, and don't go over 6, even at the 'Berry. I like the Berkley XL, and the Cajun Red.

[cool]Silverthread Excaliber. I just got some Berkley micro ice too and am going to give that a try since I don't have any 4lb Silverthread at the moment and don't feel like waiting for it to get here after having to order it.

The Cabelas store has an entire selection of silver thread on the shelves. if you are coming back from Scofield, you can stop by and stock up.

[cool]You're right, except they don't stock the 4lb stuff, unfortunitely. I guess I could make due with the 6lb stuff they have. Just wanted to go smaller when I'm perch and other panfish fishing this winter.

[cool][#0000ff]I have put it through some pretty rough tests...rocks and brush, ice fishing, toothy critters (inside the mouth)...oh yeah, and ice fishing. Did I mention that? [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I use mostly 4 and 6 and have never had a knot break or a fish break (or wear) the line. I have taken quite a few fish more than double the test of the line I was using at the time.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]That's my personal endorsement. [/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Cabelas is the only place I know to get 4# Excalibur, but BassPro stocks it down to 6#.[/#0000ff] [signature]

[black]I've been doing a little research on the same subject and after going to several discussion forums that specialize in ice fishing and seeing what was available on the market I finally bought Power Pro ice line in 8# test. Supposedly it is silicone impregnated to keep ice from adhering and 8# is the same as 3# mono. Also its hard to beat the abrasion resistance of super lines. [/black]
[black][/black] [black]I also went with Seagar Ice Fluorocarbon leader material in 6# and 8# test. Fluoros don't absorb water like monos will and the formula is such that it does not get hard or stiff in extreme cold weather.[/black] [black][/black] [black]I plan on joining the power pro and fluorocarbon with a #12 crane swivel, using 12-18 inches of the leader material then the jig.[/black] [signature]

I bought some of the Cajun Red Ice line and I couldn't get a nibble on it at Huntington . I'll still fish with it off and on but so far I'm not impressed with it .
