Well, I decided to venture out today and check out the hot springs by my house. It was cold and white but cool. The steam was rising and the water was touching the mid-60s. I caught one LMB and saw this guy headed my way. He was throwing a lead-head jig on a bobber. No fish to show for it.
On my way back to the van to head home I was walking the way he came ... along the bank.
WOOSH! ... SPLASH!
I fell face-first into the Jordan River. It took only a second to notice the bottom of the river is a mocha color. I quickly pulled myself up and out. My whole tackle bag went under and as I was pulling myself out of the water I noticed that I shattered both my rods! It was like 6 degrees out there and all I could think about was my freakin rods. ... mama.
Rod #1 ... Custom built by George Roth. 6'6" Spinning Rod
Rod #2 ... My "Welcome Home From Afghanistan Rod" From my wife. I was so crushed. Seriously, There is a lot of sentamental value in rod #2. Stuck a ton of big fish on both.
This just sucks ... Here are the picts.

That really sucks, UTBASS! What a drag, but it could be worse...you could have fallen face first into the Jordan breaking your rods in the river DOWNSTREAM from the city of West Jordan. You've heard about the raw/untreated sewage that gets dumped in from that subdivision that never got hooked up to the city sewer, right? This story was on the news a couple of months back. It's funny too because my condo in South Salt Lake (that we recently sold) was about 70 yards away from the river at around 39th South and at night It used to smell like sewer really bad some evenings, and I'd comment to my wife "man, do you smell that? I swear that there's some nasty sewer secretly getting released in the river at night around here." How right I was. Turns out this has been going on now for like 20 years (when the subdivision was built). Glad I haven't eaten any fish from downstream of W. Jordan! And, at least you didn't fall in just past there. THAT would really suck!

What a rough day man. Too bad about your rods. This might be one of those rare times when you would have been better off being at work!

Yeah ... I grabbed my bag before it got away. Spent the rest of the afternoon with my wife's blowdryer and napkins drying out all my tackle shiz. You know how nasty a rusted tackle kit can look. I had lost enough already.
Pole #1 150.00.
Pole #2 Priceless.

[cool][#0000ff]Hey Bro, I feel your pain. A similar thing happened to me on Pelican last January, when I listened to some (lightweight) fishin' buddies who assured me that some thin shoreline ice would hold me. I went down and broke all three reels on my rods, but none of the rods.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have been building and repairing rods for probably more years than you have been around. By the looks of the breaks, in the pics, they are repairable with internal insert splices. It will create a "flat spot" in the action, but the closer to the butt of the rod, the less it affects the feel. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have done a lot of those, and when properly wrapped to finish the repair, they are not usually very visible. I'd be happy to look at them and see if I can fix them for you. If nothing else, you can keep them for their sentimental value, even if you replace them with newer sticks in your active fishing lineup.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Shoot me a PM and I will get you my address and phone number, or we can "hook up" on one of my next trips south.[/#0000ff]

Clif, sorry to read of your loss. Never fun to break tackle, even worse when it has sentimental value.

[cool][#0000ff]Hey Junior, you ARE lighter than me. Heck, almost everybody is lighter than I am. You are also younger and a better fisherman too. I would say better looking, but I have already used up my allotment of fisherman's exaggeration.[/#0000ff]

Sorry to hear of your mishap. That blows. I build flyrods and have broken a couple rods that had sentimental value. Thanks for your service.
