Has anyone used the Strikemaster Polar Vision?

I saw an ad for this and thought it would be pretty handy after drilling 30+ holes looking for the river bed at scofield on Saturday. Does it work through cloudy ice? How is the fishfinder on it?

I have used it many times. It worked for me through cloudy ice, but you have to get a good seal of the end (transducer) to the ice. To do this you need water (urine works, but putting somewater in a 5 gallon bucket is better). It is definitely not good at finding fish, only depth. I think the cost is around $100, so you might want to just buy a low-end LCD for that price. The best part about it is the portablility. Can't beat a "flashlight" size.

Before you get a new device, try your regular fish finder. I take my transducer and put it in a liquid filled baggie. It works pretty good for me for finding depth.

My regular FF works just fine at this. I just need to bring some bottles of non-frozen water to pour on the ice after I kick the snow layer off. Last year I was reading the bottom in 90+ feet of water through 15 inches of ice. Just kick the snow off, pour some water, put the transducer down, and read. If that doesn't work, just pour some more water on top of the transducer while it is on the ice and there you have it. I've even seen fish through the ice like this, Doesn't work very well through slush though.
