Huntington Report 12/10
#1
Took the sons-in-law to Huntington Saturday, and we just pounded the tigers! Fishing was good until about 2:00, when things kind of shut down. There were 7 or 8 other groups out on the ice; 3 down by the dam, and the others scattered about mid-lake. I will say this: we had no one around us. But once we located fish, they were as aggressive as I remember them being last winter! You don't get a lot of "tick-tick" with those guys. It's just a good ol' John Madden BOOM!
Teasing fish off the bottom was consistant, but when schools came through mid-depths it was dynamite. White worked best for us, tipped with waxies.
We talked with a few folks as they came off, and they all had "a slow day" they said.
Snow is knee deep along the shoreline, with only about 2 inches on the ice. Cap is a good 12" - bottom 4" is hard and clear, with the top 8 or so being packed, frozen slush.
Should stay good until the snows get so deep you can't get out there too easily. And it's a long drive. As closer lakes freeze over, Huntington will probably be forgotten about.
But we had a blast! 60+ fish among the 3 of us!

i would of thought that the snow would have been at least 2 to 3 feet deep on the ice.

Most of the snow that fell on the ice turned to slush.

We did take a few pix; I'll try to get them posted in a bit. They were nice sized. Only 2 or 3 were below 12". Two of us broke off nice fish just below the hole. I didn't get to see mine, but he was by far the heaviest fish I had all day. Love those line-strippers!

Snowmobiles yes. 4-wheelers would be fine down on the ice. But getting them there could be a problem. The snow is deep along access edges. Don't know if it's trampled down enough near the dam or not. But where we walked on, you'd never get a 4-wheeler up or down.
But snowshoes are helpful!

[cool]That's very interesting how the tigers are now hitting like a freight train. When we were up there three weekends ago they were biting so light that if you didn't have a strike indicator you would have missed almost every bite it was so lite. It's interesting how things can change so much in a couple of weeks.

Nice report Uinta, and good luck on the next trip out!
