Da Berry was singing my song 12-16-05 **Pic's Added**
#1
Well after much turmoil of trying to decide to go to either the Berry or E-Lake the coin toss went to Da Berry. Me and my buddy pulled into the parking lot at the marina around 7:15 and heading down onto the ice and boy was it cold. We was happy to find the ice around 6-7 inches. We started out fishing down from the Marina in 30 feet of water and it wasn't long before I had my first fish on. It happened to be my 1 and only fish less then 16", it was quickly returned to the water to grow a few more inches. The fish would come and go in waves and by 10:00 I had ice around 12 fish. My buddy had a hard time hooking and only iced 2 at this spot. The fishing slowed a little so we moved and found another honey hole this time in 24 feet of water. Here we found the fish to be bigger but with a slight softer bite. The fishing was off and on untill around 1. We then we decided then in 10 minutes if we did not get another fish we were going home. Well with in 8 minutes "Fish on" so we extend it 10 more minutes. Well we played this game untill around 2 when the bite got real hot and we lost track of time. It started to get cold and again and we couldn't even stop to find our gloves. Well we set our limit at 3pm and it started to slow again right before so we loaded everything in the sled except the poles then at 2:55 we got a double and iced both of the fish and called it a Great Day. I iced well over 30 fish but really do not know how many since I lost track. My buddy iced around 12 fish. The biggest being 2 at 22" but most of the fish were 18" to 20". White and Chartruse seemed to be the color of choice tipped with a minnow. I will post some pics on Monday since the camera cord is at work. Back to the Singing part. The ice was real noisy and would also do the quick drop on ya, but it was all music to my ears. It looked like the ice was some what unsafe after a couple hundered yard out so don't venture to far.

I have added the Pics for your viewing pleasure. I am the ugly one in the bibs and black jacket

Awesome report!! [cool]

Kind of a catch 22 about the marina. I was really hoping to go there tomorrow, but don't think anyone can park there. Was anything even nearby plowed? I take it the main lot wasn't plowed from the sounds of it. Bummer.. now where to go! [pirate]

After reading the reports, I'm afraid due to parking and ice conditions, it's about slammed out! [Tongue]

Seems to be getting slower at Mud Creek by the day and report. We did well Tues as well, but nobody seems to be doing even decent there now. I guess I shouldn't complain, fishing is still better than staying home!! [cool]

My dad is going with me and he really likes the Berry. Probably end up at Mud or CCE. Who knows, probably a game time decision! [pirate]

There was a small lot by the marina that was plowed and just a few pull off by the campground entrances all the way up the road. I think that on the weekdays you will be fine but during the week and even during Christmas break parking will be hard. I guess you could park up further if you had a wheeler or a snow machine. But the main lot was not plowed just compacted down from snow machines.

Good luck

Kidsnme, did you or your friend use a strike indicator on your pole? At the Berry the bite is so light that I do a lot better using one. Also how stiff were your poles? If your friend had a harder time setting the hook, his pole may be too light of action for the troutup there.

I always use a strike indicator and now my friend will always use one as well. I figured that was his problem and I got one on his pole. I also think the action on his pole was to light and that lead to him having fewing hook ups. I think a strike indicator for ice fishing is a must.

Yea! Great job! It's quite easy access from the marina, isn't it?
What a good friend to give away a strike indicator. I'm sure most, if not all, the BFT folks would do the same BUT you would be surprised how many others would not.
Were they 'bows or cutts with the minnows?

They only way that they could make the access from the marina is easier is shuttle from the lake to the parking area [Tongue].
We only caught cut's on the trip. No bows were to be found. I never mind sharing with anyone if it helps them to have a good time and catch fish. I even gave a few minnows away to a guy and lady that were struggling with the ice fishing thing. This couple was so fun to watch. They were trying to drill holes with what I think was a hand auger with very dull blades. At one point they were both holding on the auger and turning in circles around the hole. Me and my friend got a kick out of the "Ice Dance". I offered up our holes when we left our 1st spot but his pride kicked in and he refused, o well.

Nice pics, nice report. Sorry about the parking. I have never iced the berry but reading the reports I guess I should. I read earlier where this plow thing would happen, I think it's a shame and a sham. What kind of mis-management would not forsee that the "Plowing Contract" would have a lapse in it? Not over the summer either. The plowing contract lapsed over the winter.

It sure seems to be worth $4.00 now.
