I had a great half day at Hyrum Reservoir today. I can't believe it. I caught more fish today than all of my previous outings there combined. The ice was about 6 inches thick and a bit slick, but no slush. Careful around the edges though if you go - and by the way - if you don't like to listen to the ice and see it crack under your feet, don't go!
The rainbows were biting on a small white tube jig with a meal worm. Got there at 7:30 am and action was good until around 11:00. After 11:00 it slowed way down. Everyone I saw was catching fish - except for one poor guy that couldn't buy a bite. I fished toward the upper end a couple of hundered yards from where the river comes in on the east side. Depth was around 15-20 feet. Good luck to all if you try it out.

I didn't see any perch caught. All were rainbows.

Fished Hyrum res Saturday, 24
We fished by the beach as I know it, it was my first time there. We had a few bites at first in about 25 feet of water but couldn't land anything. I started drillin a ton of holes in a straight line out from the shore. I had heard there were perch in there and i wanted to find them. At about 30 to 40 feet of water I found them. I was using a little spoon tipped with wax worms, and a foot above that a little curly tail tipped with a wax worm. We caught alot of perch (about 30) and a few rainbows. The perch ranged from 2 to 6 in. Not alot of meet but enough to do a fry. The rainbows were 12 to 17 in. It was a lot of fun and I hope to go back.

Good job Rabid Fisher. You are the first one to catch Perch there in a while. Too those of you that said otherwise, I told you they'd be back. Now, IFG is on the case, looking for the big ones I know are there. RF, there are bigger ones there, just go out farther, and tword the other shore, a little more tword the damm, find 58-62' of water. When you find them, it won't matter what you use. I knew I should have went there today.

Well, I try my best, hehe... jk. Well thanks for the info. We had a lot of fun up there and I will be going back this winter for sure. I will try the other side and closer to the dam. My bro did catch one 7 in+ perch, it was a nice one, so I do think there are bigger ones, just more smaller ones. Also as I started moving out into deeper water trying to find more perch, they did start getting bigger, just the bitting was slower.
Thanks
Rabid Fisher
