Fishfinder setup for Ice Fishing
#1
Well, I finally got my fishfinder. Thank you Santa. I ended up with the humminbird 565. I have never used a fishfinder and was wondering if someone can give me some advice on a good set up for ice fishing. Do I need to attach some PVC to hold the tranducer in one place? I have heard some people let the finders float in the hole. Anyway, I would love some help. Thanks

Try there for starters. Go with a cooler mount with a PVC fitting for the transducer. It works great!

Send me a PM if you want more details. I can take some photos of mine. Mine has a cooler like kentofnsl but the ducer mount of BLM and a few modifications.

Sportsman's in Riverdale set me up with an ammo box, PVC pipe, wire and a battery for about $40.00. It was very easy to put together and works great.

I made a "T" out of PVC; the lower end to hold the transducer, and the upper arms rest on the surface of the ice hole. Level your transducer ... works great! Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your help. This gives me some good ideas. Hopefully I can get it rigged tonight as I am heading up to the Berry tomorrow. Bigcat, thanks for the links, pictures always help. I hope my humminbird brings me some extra success. Thanks

[cool]I just got a new finder and called Sportsmans. They are out of those boxes right now, but are supposed to have them all set up and ready to go with the whole setup (minus the battery) for $18 Thursday. For those of us "mechanically challenged" folks like me, this is a great option.
