Rockport ????
#1
I am taking my father-in-law to rockport tomorrow morning. He has just got into fishing this year and I wanted to take him someplace he could catch fish. I went up there x-mas eve and only caught 4 perch in 5 hours. We were on the west side by the rock out cropping. Don't know how deep we were but it was pretty slow. Any tips or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanxs, D-ray

Go early. Get there just at daylight and move if you're not catching. You picked the right spot but 50 yards could mean make or break. Use ultra light tackle with wire tip strike detector. Drop it to the bottom, then real up 3 to 6 inches. Use a chartruse lead head jig with mealy worm until you catch a perch. Cut small peice from the belly and use it. A perch eye my also be the ticket. They're biting really really light, so the lighter the tip of your rod the better. If you have a fish finder it's much easier to tell when the perch are down there. Good luck!!

sjgabby and I fished Rockport today, we fished all day and finally found fish at noon. We parked at the third restroom from the dam. We walk about 200 yards out, we found we were in 37' of water. When the fish started coming in on the fish finder, the action was fast. Our rig was a gold kastmaster, then about 18" of line and a 1/8 oz glow in the dark tube jig, tipped with meal worm or night crawler. We both use the spring bobbers on the end of the rod, the bite is very light. I got many, many bites but had trouble hooking them. For about two hours, 12 to 2 pm, we got bit everytime we dropped the bait down. We didn't catch everytime, but we did get bit. We tried for trout, but only caught one in the morning down closer to the dam. One of the guys we talked to on the lake, told us a couple of guys caught 4 nice trout closer to the river end of the lake.
Good luck, when you find them, it is fast and furious.

We were there yesterday from 8-11:30 and unfortunately, we got skunked. We were at the 2nd bathroom turn-off( westside ), moved north to the Rocky points and fished in 37 ft. down to 15 ft. Moved around a lot and didn't mark any fish in 10 or more spots that I drilled holes at. I think the key is to move around and be patient. Also, bring the lightest tackle that you have to detect the lightest bites. The last hour that we were there, the wind picked up quite a bit, enough to see chairs and empty buckets get blown around. Left Rockport before the rains came. Good luck and keep movin' till you find 'em.

Thank you, Perchpile, Kastmaster, and Playas44 for your helpful information. My father-in-law backed out last night. Then he called this morning to see if i'd gone and changed his mind. We got at about 11:30 (i know several hours to late) but we went to the rock out cropping and moved around. Finally about 4:00 they started to bite and we came home with 12. We used rat finkee tipped with meal worms until some nice man gave us some eyes and then we used the eyes from then on out. Thanks again for the info, it was greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey deepcycle, I thought the ice conditions were okay. 4 to 5 inches, the only thing is that it is SLICK. Good luck and have fun.

Was it also smooth or just slick. My friends 2 oldest are into Hockey and I'm wondering if the ice is smooth to skate on? I was up there last sat and it was slick but rough with lots of ripples on the ice.
