Fishing Resolutions
#1
[cool][#0000ff]I'm surprised one of us has not posted a "What are your resolutions" post yet. I know we have had a couple on goals...kind of the same thing, only different. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Brett Prettyman's Tight Lines column in this morning's Tribune [url "http://www.sltrib.com/outdoors/ci_3351726"](LINK TO ARTICLE)[/url] offered some good suggestions. Some of them are in line with my own...to fish new spots, target new species, try new tackle and techniques, etc. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]At my (retired) wife's insistence, I am going to be at least partially retiring soon, so that we can do a lot of things we want to do before time, health and other factors pop up to keep us from doing so. Being an organizer (anal), I make lists and set up time schedules and all that stuff. I guarantee that this coming year will add some new waters and new species to my angler's resume.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Time to stop wishin' and start fishin'. Gonna take Larry's (Cable Guy) advice and GIT 'ER DONE.[/#0000ff]

My 2006 fishing resolutions:

1) Finally catch a 10+ pound mack (I know it would still be a baby pup to many of you, and I am Sad to admit that I haven't met this goal before)
2) Catch an 8 foot sturgeon (only need one 11 inches longer than I caught this year, and they are in there).
3) Catch a 10+ pound channel cat.
4) Learn now to properly fish for bass, rather than just pretending that I know what I am doing.
5) Catch as many fish, on any trip with MGB as he catches (a guy can dream can't he?)

[cool]My first goal is a similar one to one of Kent's:
Catch a 10+ lb channel cat from Utah Lake. My biggest so far is only 8lbs 4 oz.

Goal #2. To catch a 5+ lb walleye.

Goal #3. to catch a big cut or bow from the berry. This to me would be anything bigger than 5 lbs.

Goal/resolution #4 to take my daughter with me on at least one fishing trip (even though she will barely be two years old, maybe I can get her into a bluegill or two from Kaysville or Maybe pond? We'll see...it's gonna be a GREAT year!!!

Another resolution would be to fish more with the 20-30 BFT'rs that I've met so far, and to meet and fish with many more of them, and to continue the comraderie with the ones that I already fish with!

[cool][#0000ff]I can understand A & B. However, I am doubtful of the last one. I was tought that goals should be achievable, or that you merely set yourself up for defeat and disappointment. Are you some kind of masochist...to take on such a challenge?[/#0000ff]

2006 for me:

1- Use hypnosis to convince my wife she loves fishing as much as I do and that there is no such thing as going to much

2- Take my kids more

3- 10+ lb mac from the Gorge

4- If #1 actually works, revise the rest of my goals and buy a few things (boat, snowmobile, uhh...)

Hey kent, I can help you with that #5 goal.
The secret to outfishing MGB is not to actually outfish him. The secret is to keep him from actually fishing. Its the only way it can be done. He cant be beat fairly so you simply throw him overboard at any chance you get, toss his poles overboard, cut his lines, render his tackle unusable, ect. He may never invite you back, but you will have won the day.

On that #4 resolution, I will let you in on a little secret, no one really KNOWS how to "properly fish for bass" the best pretenders have the most success.
