Has anyone ever used plastic crawdads with crawdad smelly jelly at Strawberry? I know that the big Cutthroat eat crawdads, so why wouldn't the plastics work? Just a thought.

[cool][#0000ff]Yep. Crawdads and crawdad imitations have been good on Da Berry for as long as I remember. Motor oil colored twisters and tubes have been the secret weapons for a lot of guys for many years.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]And, if you are a fly flinger, try dragging a green and brown wooly bugger along the weed lines for both browns and bows.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]One of the points made by the Alan Ward, of DWR, during the recent Stonefly Society meeting was that an increasingly high percentage of the food found in fish taken in gill net surveys was made up of crawdads. He also made the point that the 'dads thus ingested were mostly smaller ones, under 3" long. Some of those big-clawed dudes are even more than the big toothy cutts wanna tackle I guess.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]By the way, both crawdad and nightcrawler fish attractants work. I have been told that their scent is very close. I know that tipping a crawdad colored jig with a bit of crawler helps seal the deal pretty good.[/#0000ff] [signature]

A few years ago, while I was ice fishing at Strawberry with Utahwalleye, I used a tipped plastic crawdad jig and caught lots of cutts.

[cool]I've got a crawdad colored/looking foxy jig and have used it with crawdad smelly jelly before tipped with a chunck of meal worm and did o.k., but didn't slay them. Guess I should try it again. Haven't done it in a couple of years though.

Where's Bassackwards!?!? He's a crawdad fishin' pro! [cool]
We use them at Fontenelle in Wyo. where c'dads are native like the Berry and the Browns love them. They usally smack the heck out of it when they hit it tho. Hardest I've ever felt a trout hit (besides a few Macks I've caught) was a 'Nelle brown with a crawdad! Literally watched my father in law lose a pole one day up there as it got jerked in.
