Starvation, Strawberry, Deer Creek, Jordanelle
#1
Starvation 2/21 (10:00 to 1:00):
Tried to do a little ice fishing there. Most of the main lake is open water now. Some bays are frozen but ice is breaking up. Fished north of Indian campground with no sucess. Wanted to fish the little bay by the bridge but some @#$% rich person(s) bought the access property, chained the road going down to the bay, and is building a great big house there.

Strawberry 2/21 (4PM to 6PM):
Fished Chicken creek in 20 feet of water. Wind was blowing and nearly froze to death. As I was lowering the Agua-vu for a look I spotted a nice sized rainbow. The rainbow was swimming parallel to the camera but when I stopped lowering it for a better look the trout turned, came straight at the camera and tried to swallow it. I've seen curious fish come up and look at the camera but never seen one attack it before. Amazing! Caught one 21 inch cutthroat trout to beat off the skunk. Could see fish swarming around my hook but they didn't seem very hungry.

Deer Creek 2/22 (9:30 to 1PM):
Fished the long bay next to the state park. Went down where the outhouse is. Caught a trout right off the bat in 20 feet of water and then struggled to get another bite. Had one hookup in deep water that was a bass, walleye or perch. Lost it after a few seconds. It was heavy and didn't have the bounce fight that a trout has. Caught a couple more small trout before we left.

Jordanelle 2/23 (3PM - Dusk):
Fished the Rock Cliff area. Think I saw Tubedude and Tubebabe out straight out from us in the middle. We where the ones fishing right next to the bank. Found some perch and trout in a little cove in 20 feet of water where there was lots of trees and debris in the water. Perch averaged 7-8 inches. Trout averaged 12-14. This was our best catching of our 4-lake tour.

[cool][#0000ff]Probably not us. We were there on the 22'nd. Glad to hear there are some fish in the shallower water there. With all of the brush and structure over there, I suppose it will be one of their spawning areas. Did you find many snags?[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Sorry to hear about the restricted access on Starvation. I wanted to drop my tube in there sometime soon. I guess I will just have to get in and slide down the embankment. Might be tough getting back out...if I survive the ride down.[/#0000ff]

TubeDude:

I typoed the date for Jordanelle in my report above. We were there on the 22nd.

I lost one ice fly and my father lost a couple hooks also where we were fishing. I dropped the aqua-vu down and there were tree branches everywhere.

I thought about the same manuver at Starvation. Just hop in the sled and take the ride off the highway down the steep embankment and slide right on to the ice. Wasn't sure how I'd get back up with or without broken bones.

Any open water at Jordanelle so we could fish in a boat?

The main part of the lake had ice, but didn't look safe enough to walk on. I would guess that the main launch is frozen in but I'm not sure about that. If the warm weather holds then it won't be long before the main lake has opened up.

I think in earlier posts by another member there are some pictures of the lake as it was on the 22nd.

That used to be a great place to launch my 'toon at starvation. I used to go down there at night for a couple hours, catch a couple walleye for dinner on the open fire. No more though, I always thought that was "public" land untill it was gated off last year, too bad.
