Huntington open?
#1
On Fox 13 news at nine they had lake reports and it had said that Huntington is open. Can any one confirm that it is open.

They probably meant lower huntington.Upper huntington probably is still iced over with about 6 feet of snow after today.

[cool][#0000ff]Don't trust Channel 13 lake reports. At one point they were reporting 6" of ice on Huntington when there was over 24" of ice and 4 feet of snow. On that same broadcast, they were reporting Deer Creek completely frozen when boats were launching from both the main ramp and the island.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I don't think they were reporting on the lower elevation lake. They focus on the ones best known and most used by anglers.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Huntington is one of the first to freeze and the last to thaw. I would bet that it will be May before open water there.[/#0000ff]

The only way you will fish huntington now is if you open it up with some high explosives. You would need an auger extension if you really wanted to try to ice fish there.

I guess I won't take the kayak up there then. I guess it would be a fun ride down the dam to the lake in the yak but not very productive trolling from it.

Billy, go for it, you will only catch one less tiger trout that you did the last trip you took up there. That day there was enough slush on the top of the ice that you could have comfortably fished from your kyak (well as comfortable as one can be sitting in slush!).
