I would like to fish for Crappie at Willard this Friday morning. I have not fished Willard for Crappie before.
Is the boat ramp area at the North end good?
I may take a float tube and if I do, would the area by the docks be best or out in the open water?
What jigs are best? Should I use a bobber or fish deep, closer to the bottom?
Also would there be any Wipers in the same area as the Crappie?
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks, Dale.

Fish off the private docks in the north marina with small crappie jigs tipped with a waxworm. he best color for me is black over green with some crawfish anise smelly jelly, if Princefisher hasn't "snorted" it all. LOL. The east side is also good at times. Move around to find them, but usually when you do it is fast and furious for a few minutes until they move again. Take some sonar if you are in your tube. It will help to find them faster.

Hey, I "resemble" that remark, as TubeDude would say.
Lunker, thanks for all your tips and reports. I wish I lived closer to Willard so that I could put to good practice all of your advice.
Good luck to you, and tight lines!

I wish I lived closer too. I've wanted to go catch some Wipers at willard since I was like 14 years old, but for some reason I've never gone up there. Utah Lake is just too close for me and has great fishing too.

If some of the regulars that fish for crappie are there you can get a lot of good info from them, most of them don't use this site. I've seen them catch fish around the docks and that East beach area in the marina. Most of the time they are using small crappie jigs a few feet below a bobber, they cast out and reel it back real slooow. HFT usually has some good up to date info on type of jigs, so PM him if he doesn't respond to this post. Good luck. WH2

I also like the east side for crappie.... I park at the south end of the North Marina, then keep walking south along the shore there. There is some submerged cover in that area, and I have found the fish holding in it on several occasions. I haven't done all that great for Wipers there, but I have still caught an occasional one.
I normally use a 1/16 or even a 1/32 oz jig head in black with a white or a green curly tail or crappie tube.
Good luck!
