Pineview, Tiger Muskies
#1
When is a good time of year to head up to Pineview for Tiger Muskies? What do you generally use? I know there is a lot of specialized equipment for Muskies, how important is that? I am very interested it catching something, ANYTHING other than trout here in Northern Utah, but muskies seem to be about as exotic as it gets for around here--other than the barracuda that I caught in the Weber![Wink]

from what I've observed, may-june, and august-september seem to be the best times (at least that's when i've had the best luck). Try using big jointed rapala's in yellow perch or firetiger patterns. Also, big spinnerbaits can produce some fish.

When the water reaches the high 40's - low 50's which is usually in late April you can pick up a few but this is not the most productive time to catch them. June and July and September has been the most productive months for me. I favor the smaller lures like #7 and #5 shad raps but will use large ones like J-13 rapala's.

Lots of stuff will catch Tigers,Trolling #7 Sinking, suspending Rapalas with a orange belly, casting large inline spinners-#5-6 in gold. Troll with about 100' out.Use braided line when casting.Trolling I use 12-14lb test doubled up about 6" from the end.Steel leaders I think if you use smaller lures.I'm no expert, but I have caught a few.MGB is the expert

Good to know who the expert is. Maybe I'll have to take hime to dinner to get him to spill the beans on where to go, when to go, what to use, and how to use it.
