[b][font "Bookman Old Style"][black]Hi all I just to let you know the fish in Sanpete are still in the spwan and the water temp is in the low 50* and if the weather stays in the 70* in the day and above 35* at night the fishing should get good the next week or two.
I have been down to Yuba and Nine Mile this last week and seen some nice rainbows spawning along the banks and the big ones were in Nine Mile Res. I seen 7 along the bank there that would go 10 plus lbs. and there was some nice ones over at Yuba Res. that I seen that would go around 7 to 8 lbs.
For the ones that would like to give them big ones a try just look for the gravel areas along the banks and use crank baits/lures and flies and try to get them as close as you can to them. The big down side is that they don't hit too much and when they do it is reel lite.
I will be hitting both lakes a lot from now on and will let you know when the spawn is over the the fish start to hit the old hook. Oh and I need some one to show me how and where to catch them bigs eye's over a Yuba Res. this summer

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard and thanks for the update. I suspected the big trout were "busy" about now. I will be looking forward to some post-spawn action when they start prowling for food again.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Many of us are interested in seeing how the population of fathead minnows is this year. They swarmed in around shore several times last year and really helped fatten up all the fish in the lake. Harvested a few and tried them for ice fishing. The fish approve in several lakes, so those minnows are on the MUST DO list this year. They hold up well and stay firm even after being frozen and thawed a couple of times. Much better than shiners or chubs.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Not sure about the population of walleyes yet. Several have been caught since the refilling but nothing like the glory days of old. The perch are coming on strong though.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also good to hear there are still some bigguns in 9 mile. That is a productive little lake if you get to know it. Really some big phat bows in there.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Keep us posted and we will try to time a trip or two to meet up down there. If you want some BFT stickers, send me a PM with your mailing address.[/#0000ff]

Welcome aboard .I fish yuba a lot or used to when the walleyes where there in numbers years back.I usually fish it in the fall for those big bows.Theres some good walleye spots i know at yuba but you need a boat to get to them. But now that tiger trout were stocked there theres another reason for me to fish it more often.I usually shore fish but now that i have a boat gonna have to do some exploring for new structure that could hold some walleyes.Gonna have to fish nine mile one day i keep hearing about the nice size fish in there.

Thanks all for the welcome and I hope too meet ever body on here this summer and get a little fish in with all of you.
I will be more then gald to show members how to fish Nine Mile and what works best but the thing is you have to catch and release and I will let you keep one fish over 7 lbs. per year and if you start taking more I will give you a good long talk.
The reason I like people to turn fish back in Nine Mile is they grow so fast in their, like two lbs. or more per year and if ever body turns the fish back and keeps just one or two nice one's and if we can get the DWR to plant more the 10,000 fish in there each year, the average fish would be 4 lbs. or more. But the lake needs 60,00 to 80,000 fish a year, do to the fishing pressure it gets when the fishing is good and just to let you know the biggest fish that I have seen came out was in 1984 and I got it and it weighted in at 13.67 lbs. and he took what I call the Nine Mile killer.
OK I'm off to NM and see if I can get one of them spawner's to hit something and will try Yuba tomorrow down by the narrows and Tube you have been PM.

Ocean you need to try Nine Mile out it is one of the best fisheries in the state for rainbows and if the DWR pulls their head out of you no where it would be the best the USA back in the early 80's the fish averaged 4 plus lbs. and you could catch them on ever cast if you have the nine mile killer on the end of your line and that was ever day you went out.
Now the DWR just puts around 10,000 fish a year in there and I called them last week and all they said was one fish stocking for the year so we as fisherman need to give them hell and let them know we the sportsman of you pay good money so they can have a job and I'm sorry if we have members in this forum that work for the DWR but we do pay good money to fish and hunt in this state.
Lakes like nine mile and yuba plus some other should be artificial only and have a fish size limit of 24" or better and kept stocked. and that why I joined this forum because most poster in here seem to like the bigger fish and just maybe if I can get the members of this forum to call and give the DWR some hell we can get all the fisheries that produces big fish fast to be trophy lakes. Any way I have said too much now and somebody will give me hell for giving the DWR boys hell. I hope everybody has and good weekend I know I will.
Hey Ocean did you get over to yuba today and if you did how you do.

[cool][#0000ff]Hey Danny, I am sure that you post will be read by more than one person affiliated with DWR. We do have some good BFT members from amongst that organization, and I am sure others monitor our ramblings. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In their defense, I must point out that their plans and budgets are set far in advance, based upon projected revenue from all sources and upon where they think they can get the most bang for the buck. Unfortunately for the trophy hunters amongst us, DWR plans their planting for harvest by the masses, rather than to build trophy fisheries. Their idea of success is having the last planted fish harvested just ahead of the next planting. The fish are raised to be harvested by license-buying anglers. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It is great that some of our waters can and do produce some big fish, but don't expect DWR to change their schedules just because a few BFTers wanna see their honey holes blessed more often.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We applaud your own personal efforts at conservation and preservation of the limited number of fish in Nine Mile. Every angler can make a difference. Enough anglers all working together can do even better. But, this is Utah, and Utah fishermen have long been of the mindset that when they buy a license they are entitled to catch a limit every time they go fishing, or they have been cheated. And, the bigger the fish they can take home to show off...before being stuffed in the freezer for a couple of years...the better.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I keep my share of fish, because I enjoy eating them. But, I try to limit my "take home" to the smaller and better eating fish of most species...and only what I can eat before the next trip. Even though I practice selective harvest, I don't think it is up to anyone else to dictate just what I can keep and what I can't. I respect the feelings of others and try not to offend, if I can help it. But, you have to be careful when you get on a soapbox and start trying to change everyone else to fit your ideals.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Keep up the good work and we look forward to your contributions.[/#0000ff]

If you don't mind sharing, where are some of the gravel beds that the spawners are at on Yuba? I would like to show my four year old son some fish this week. I am not asking for your exact honey hole, just looking to learn more about Yuba. PM me if you don't mind sharing.
Thanks

First of all, welcome. It's great to have members from all over the state. I am also a new member and have not met anyone in person (yet). There is alot of information from some good people. If you could share any info on Yuba , it would be more than appreciated, PM or on the board. Thanks

OK Tube just to let you know I do not make anybody catch one fish a year but I will give them a hell of a talking to and it did work in the early 80's and had about 70 to 80 % turning the small ones back and just keeping one or two nice ones now and then.
Now for Ocean nine mile is dead right now and if you want to see the size of fish in it just walk the dike along the east side of the lake. When the fish pick up and start to feed I will let you know and you can come down and we can take my boat out and show you how to fish there. Also I am going over to Yuba down at the dam Thursday morning to fish and will be taking my boat over. If you want to you can come down and fish with me. Also, Ocean if you like to catch Tiger Trout, try Pali e lake. It is east of Sterling. My brother-in-law caught a new state record Tiger trout that was over six pounds and he turned it back before he knew it was a new record and as far as I know it is still in the lake. It has been slow catching the Tiger trout. Not many in there but there are some large ones. Best place to fish is the dam and the west side of the lake. You don't have to pay state fees there. Lures and Rapala are the best for the Tiger trout and works good on the Rainbow to.
Yuba info: The best place to look for the rainbow spawning is along the west side of the lake. One of the better places to look is across from the painted rocks marina to the south and west, there is a long graveled finger that comes off the west bank and is marked by buoys. Also, while going around the lake, watch the banks for gravel and try to find the shallow areas with water less than six feet deep for spawning trout. Also, if the water clears up, but i doubt it will, you will have the best luck from Fayette down the stream because, that is the only stream that comes into Yuba. It is also a good place to look for Walleye due to the inlet.
Does anybody have any info on Koosharem Res?. I would like to know if there is still any ice on it and how is the fishing down there?. Plus, what are they hitting down there as far trolling?.
Oh, and to let everybody know, this forum has some great info on fishing from the members and I hope we can get other reports on lakes that is not so popular like, Strawberry, Dear Creek, Utah Lake, etc. From the North end of the state down to the South end of the state.

[cool][#0000ff]Thanks for all the good info, Bro. I did not mean to needle ya. I totally sympathize with your efforts to keep fisheries intact by selective harvest. I got yer back.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]By the way, some BFT stickers are in the mail to ya. No, not the check...some stickers.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you want reports on a diverse number of waters I doubt you will find a better source than our little playroom. Once Mama Nature quits having hot flashes and settles down for the summer we will all scatter around the state to sample the waters. And, we are pretty good about posting reports. We hope to see some good stuff from you too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Question: Isn't the dike on Nine Mile on the WEST end of the lake...and isn't Painted Rocks on the EAST end of Yuba? Or, are you just trying to confuse folks to protect those spawners? I can't believe the sun comes up differently in Sanpete, but my wife was born in Spring City so I can understand.[/#0000ff]

OK Tube when you get to the Painted Rock at Yuba and you unload that tube of yours look to the South West and on the west side of the lake you will see some Buoys floating over there on the west.
Now for Nine Mile the dike is mostly on the east side of the lake and runs just about 60 to 70 yards or so from the highway and the dam end is more on the west end of the lake. But the dam is on the South West end of the like if you use a compass so that makes the dike on the South east side of the lake and i will try later to night and post a map that show were this fish are spawning at.
