Wish I had some Popeye's Chicken!! / Jordan River
#1
Fished the Jordan today from about 7200 S. almost all
the way to the airport, using chub and different plastics,
not so much as a bite. The water temperatures have
risen significantly, and the wind really wasn't bad.
I wasn't able to take an accurate reading, but I would
say the water is easily high 40's to low 50's. I don't
know where all the kitties and eyes have gone, maybe
someone a little wiser than me will figure it out and give
me a hint. I would feel so much better about this whole
getting skunked thing if I just had a little Popeye's
Chicken, maybe have to make a trip to Vegas.

Good Luck guys, it can be brutal out there...

[cool][#0000ff]Hey, my man, if you want the REAL Popeye's chicken you gots to go to N'awlins. I lived down there for several months and became big time addicted to that stuff. Gotta have the red beans and rice and lots of Tabasco sauce to make it authentic. But, after a lunch of that stuff you can handle anything...even skunks.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The big problem with the Jordan right now is that it is in full flow. Most of the fish run upstream until they find a big hole and then wait out the flood. They are not nearly as active as the fish that stay in the lake. And, even the Utah Lake fish are not what you would call red hot right now.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The high water is likely to last until about mid July this year. After that, I think the Jordan will produce some great fishing through the summer. The heavy flow is restocking the river and once the fish can set up housekeeping they will be much easier to find and catch.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Look for inside bends, breaks in the current behind bridge pilings and any natural deeper holes. Fish on the bottom with a sliding egg sinker (minimum 1/2 oz.) 12" - 18" leader and a whole crawler. Probably the best all around offering for all species until the current slows down.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Good luck. [/#0000ff]

You cannot have Popeye's chicken with out having some deep fried okera. I mean man whats the world comming too? red beans and rice are nice but doesn't complete that meal.
I didn't think anyoe in Utah even heard of Popeye's Chicken, let alone liked it. Small small world.

One week ago today I was enjoying a taste of Popeye's Chicken. Mmmmm. Had to go all the way to Cincinnati to get it. If we're talkin' Cinci, though, you gotta talk about Skyline Chili. Didn't like it one bit, but I did try it.

I usually avoid the Jordan until the flows settle down. Keep an eye on flows [url "http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ut/nwis/uv/?site_no=10171000&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060,72020,00010,00095,00300,00076"]here.[/url]

Man after my own heart.... The closest Popeye's to our neck of the woods is Rock Spring's Wyoming... I try and make that stop every time I go to the gorge (which isn't too often) It's a few miles out of the way but whatarya gonna do... Utah just doesn't know good fried chicken.

There are 2 eatin' establishments that Utah NEEDS especially with the transplanted population.... #1 IN-N-OUT and a close #2 Popeye's Chicken... KFC is crap!!!! even if it is the home of the worlds first KFC.

3 places with decent chicken you may want to try....

Maddox Chicken in Kaysville.

Momma's Southern Plantation IN SLC is a real down home soul food restaurant (great food!!) they make a mean catfish sandwich too...

Q4U in Kearns -just recently started serving fried chicken. I haven't tried it yet but If the fried chicken at Q4U is half as good as their ribs it'll be great. I need to give it a try.

Hear, hear for the In-n-Out. It is the first stop in Vegas when I get there. I heard there may be one coming to St. George.

Tell me more about Mama's Southern Plantation. I'm a transplanted southern boy who grew up fishing with trot lines, jugs, yo-yo's, and cane poles. And sculling the john boat through the stump-studded lakes catching bream.

Q4U is good, but my BBQ is better.

In-N-Out and Popeyes are OK, but this former Vegas resident's first stop when visiting down there is to Fatburger. Their burgers ROCK over every other chain IMO and their fries are much better too. Man, my mouth is watering as I type this.[Tongue]

Hey, who asked for your opinion! [Wink][Wink] With this December like weather up here, no ice fishing left, and all the softwater spots fishing slow, I am about ready to move back down. Nice work on Sand Hollow. I need to come down and give that a try. They hadn't opened it up yet when I lived there. The Overton arm of Lake Mead also usually gets smoking hot for stripers, LMB, and cats in about 2-3 weeks too.

you know what, as much as i want to try mead i still haven't done it, even with all your advice. everytime i go fishing it's just too hard for me to go anywhere besides quail and sand hollow. guess i'm just too famlliar with them. that and i have a utah lisence and not a nevada one. i will get out there and try it but if i'm not in st. george on my weekends i usually make the trip to slc to see family ad friends and do myself some smallie stalking at lake x. i miss lake x. if ya make it down let me know and we can teach each other what we know.........

as promised, a report with pics from the trip to popeyes.........

i went on the chicken hunt tonite bout 7:30. i was the only one in line, no better way than to have the drive-thru to yourself. i talked to the guy inside, he said the chicken was really hittin tonite so i pulled around to my spot by the window and started tossin a $10 bill, that was just what they wanted, they even kicked back 5 bucks. before i knew it i had reeled in a #1 combo, figured i wouldn't throw this one back, it was good eatin' size. seeing as i had my limit i went home and scarfed that chicken right up........mmmmmmm mmmmmm good.......
