I was up in the La Sal Mountains (east of Moab) on Thursday, May 4. The paved road is all clear, no sign of snow. I was going to check out Warner and Oohwah Lakes, but the roads were still gated.
I decided to trek the 3 miles in to Oohwah on foot. It looks like the bulldozer has already treated the road and it's ready to go. It was dusty-dry until the campground.
Oohwah was about 50% ice-free as you can see in the pictures. There were little rainbows in there, last year's holdovers I believe, that were plenty willing to eat what I threw at them.
I took the hike over to Warner Lake--800 foot elevation gain in about 1.5 miles. That hike was snow free as well. The campground was full of deer. I didn't try fishing the lake (pond), as I was doubtful anything overwinters there.
It was a gorgeous day. This was my first time in the LaSals. If anyone knows anything about other fishing up there, please share. (PMs are great). I noticed some hikes with at least one lake as destination and am curious to learn more.
