Finally! A vacation

Me and my daughter went to Virginia to fish, and my parents live there too, and it was fantastic. The larger lakes had some HUGE bass up on their beds and the smaller lakes were on a post spawn frenzy.
We also went to NC to visit family. In 8 hours I saw more bass boats on the road than I've seen my entire life.Just about everyone has some type of boat out East. Fish are everywhere from some strange "thing" I caught on a shrimp on the beach to huge smallies and LMB in tidal rivers. Now that was neat! Water, water everywhere with 8 days to fish.
I could post pics like crazy but I will keep it short.


This is (what the locals call blue channels, Do we have those in Utah[]) my catch from chesapeke bay. I was waaay undertackled so the locals were very friendly and helped me out.

The locals got a kick watching me get this off my hook but just about freaked out when I threw it back. I later found out they are pretty tasty.

Now to go inshore. The bass fishing is awesome back east. The guys at the sports store looked at me like I was crazy when I said there were bass in Utah.
This is my Mom, she taught me how to fish so when she caught the first LMB she did the 'I'm better than you dance'.

There were lots of HUGE bass up on the beds but were very spooky.

My daughter just couldn't get enough, she was fishing from the dock as we loaded the truck.

We also fished Motts Run Reservoir. A city water reservoir with only electric motors, How sweet is that?

It was a beautiful 10 days. I feel my Utah days are numbered, I realized we truly live in a desert. And because of my luck my luggage was never put on the plane when I switched in Denver. My Loomis rods!!!! and clothes, but whatever, I've been teaching my rods to catch fish for years and now I don't have them[mad]. They are supposed to be here by 9:00 pm tonight, we'll see...

Great report, and sounds like a good vacation. I am off to Cancun this weekend for a week with my folks (who are also in Virginia, outside of DC). Maybe we can hook up and do the Willard thing when I get back, if your interested.

Those blue crab are great if you have a little more quantity then you got there. That one doesn't look quite pale enough to be what they call a "peeler". Peelers are when they're just shedding their skin. You can deep fry a peeler right after they finish shedding their skin/exoskeleton and eat them shell and all. The guys I crab with in Virginia throw the peelers in a crab pot tied to the dock and wait for them to finish shedding. They're called soft shell crab after their done. Did you get any Spots, Crokers, Rock Fish (Stripers), or Blues on the Chesapeake?

We caught all blues but there were reports of some stripers being caught offshore we went to the colonial beach marina and watched some guys fillet some fish I'm not familiar with. I think they called them rock fish-but looked like stripers but I'm not familiar with the local fish.

Great pictures, I spent a week at my Dad's cabin in Northern Wis. two summers ago, and the bass fishing was just great. Nothing big 3lbs. was maybe the largest Largemouth and I had one smallmouth that went 3 1/2 lbs. All were released. We would also tie into one of the Northern Pike once in awhile that made for some interesing times on 6lb. line. I sure miss that type of country and fishing, but I guess Utah will still be our home for at least 5 more years. You have a great summer and maybe we'll see you on the water.[]
