[cool][black] [#0000ff]TubeBabe and I decided to try for some wipers at Willard Bay on Thursday. We launched just after 6:30 AM. Threw all kinds of plastics, feathers and hardbaits. TubeBabe had one good hit. That's it. I got twin 20" wipers. One at 8 AM and the other at 9 AM. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Missed the hit at 10. Probably because of the boating idiots. Some guy in a beat up old wiper chaser (Petty4Life) came right up to me and caught my line on his motor. Broke me off. He gave me a plain wrapped package and thought that might buy me off.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Had another guy start to go between me and the rocks, while I was fishing into shore. When I hollered at him, he trolled out around me, so close he almost bumped me with the boat and kept yammering about what a %$#&% I was and that I didn't need to make such a big issue of it. He was the one making all the noise. Typical Utah sportsman. Never could figure out that when I am in a tube, and the only person in view, why boats have to crowd me or run over my line and then get mad because I take exception to it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Water was muddy and cold in the channel still...48 degrees. Main lake was just under 60 early and almost 62 when we hit the ramp about noon. [/#0000ff][/black]
[black] [#0000ff][/#0000ff][/black]
[black] [#0000ff]Man, those wipers hit like a freight train and fight like a pit bull. Lots of fun anyway you can catch them, but on light tackle, from a tube, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT.[/#0000ff]

Great report, TD. Nice fish.
There is no shortage of anglers these days who were never taught even the basics of sportsmanship or human civility. Not all of them are in Utah. Hard to hold your when boaters cut in on you like that. Nothing explains it except that a lot of people are pretty selfish and often don't have a clue as to how obnoxious they are to others. Glad you made a good day of it though.
Don't think we have wipers in Oregon. If we did I'd be after them.

[cool][#0000ff]You got some dandy stripers though. Take your biggest fairy wand down to the Smith River. Hand to fin combat at its best.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Wipers (also called hybrids or sunshine bass) are sterile crosses between white bass and striped bass. Much bigger and nastier than white bass. Great predators to control large populations of rough fish or shad, without overpopulating the water themselves (no spawning). They are being used a lot in the warmer states to provide good fishing and predator control without having to worry about runaway gluttony. Easy to maintain a controlled population.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Wipers and stripers are pushovers on big white flies. They hit hard and make good runs against a tight drag. Great eating too.[/#0000ff]

TD, that is why we don't go to Pineview for Tiger. People really have a hard time with the Wakeless speed and 75' away from any other craft. We use to waterski with a 70' rope and have boats go between our boat and skiier, eating up a couple of ropes, with that same dumb expression "What did I do?"[mad]
Feel your pain, and makes me think twice about Willard even with my big yellow banana.

[cool][#0000ff]Ya cain't live with 'em...so shoot the &%$#@&s. Seriously, it is virtually impossible to try to train inconsiderate boaters (and others) to respect their fellow lake users. It seems that once someone gets in a powered craft they leave their brains and their sportsmanship on the shore.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have had boats go between me a shore, when I was honestly less than 20 feet from the water's edge. Then they go ballistic when I challenge them. I can't remember how many times I have heard "You don't own the lake"...or "Quit yer whinin'" [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have also quit counting the number of times I get on the water at daybreak, in an effort to get some "quiet time" and quality fishing, only to have it ruined by boaters. There seems to be an unwritten rule that says the first boat out on the water has to look for the solitary float tuber, fishing back in a quiet cove and then make a beeline for him so they can run a few wide open circles around him...just to show off their nice boat.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Same thing for water skiers. No matter how big the lake, water skiers always have to use tubers and tooners as marker buoys, to make sure they get as close as possible. And, it is also required that when a water skier "dumps", that it be right on top of the tubing angler, so that the boat and skier can make plenty of noise for the benefit of the angler.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Timing is important. Once the water warms up, tubers and tooners pretty much have to count on harrassment from the power squadron until after Labor Day. Only if you can get on the water at first light, and hopefully in mid week, will you be able to try for some decent fishing. After that, forget it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]During the summer we have to target more remote lakes, that are still ideal for anglers but not for PWC and skiers. I will be making a few trips to more remote waters this summer. Gotta go play on Huntington, for the tiger trout. Fish Lake sounds good for multiple species. Gonna try to find some Sacramento Perch at Pruess Lake, and some growing wipers at Newcastle. Oh yeah, I'll still do some hit and run on the high traffic waters, but I will be well armed and ready to hit the ramp when it gets too hectic.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Hey ol buddy, you know I am just pullin' your chain. I shouldn't have left my line in the water while we were doing the "handoff". My bad. You're cool. I lost a bait hook. Big deal.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It would have been nice to have you have my back...errr, front...when that other yokel came by. Couldn't believe he was actually going to run over my lines while I was casting in to the rocks. Then, I really couldn't believe it when he started dissin' me for being an a##hole and a crybaby. He kept it up until he was out of earshot. Musta had a tough time gettin' the kitchen pass.[/#0000ff]

[#ff4040]People are such dinks nowadays it's unbelievable. I was wading out at AF the other day and some guy thought it would be cool to come park his boat about 20 ft away. There were a bunch of us that had been there for lord knows how long and this guy thought that he could just run on top of us. He pretty much was the only boat on the whole lake, and I was thinking to myself I would definitely be at a better spot if I had a boat. I got pretty sick of him quick so I chucked my jigs right into his boat[shocked]. That kinda gave him a clue and he took off pretty quick after I did that. I hate being an ass and doing that, but you can only ask him to back away so many times.[/#ff4040]

MMMM with those boaters who don't respect others isn't there anything you can report those troubles to the water police?

[cool][#0000ff]Our laws read that boats must stay 150 feet away from others in the water, but only under power. They can idle as close as they want. Slow trolling is at 'wakeless" speed so legally they can bump you if they want.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Of course, basic rules of sportsmanship are to give the other guy plenty of room and not to interfere with someone else's fishing. But, sportsmanship is in short supply on many waters.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]I have been known to fire some half ounce sinkers at rude boaters myself. I quit using valuable lures when I lost some to snagged targets. If you whack someone a couple of times with a sinker...or crack a windshield...they will either leave or become worse. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It's kinda like road rage though. You have to be careful who you choose to take on. You never know who is armed and just how wacko they might be. I have witnessed some armed confrontations around the country...all over fishing. Sad.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]That's why I have mellowed out a lot in my "advanced years". It's not that I have any greater tolerance for ignorance, stupidity and poor sportsmanship. [/#0000ff]

Nice lookin fish there TubeDude.
What a shame about the brainless boater. I have had thoughts about what its gonna be like up here when the seasonal tards come out. I will give it a shot but I may just stay away from the two big lakes here as both have state camping parks on them. Lots of don't give a hoot people tearin up the lakes.

[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, once the water gets warm enough for people to exchange their brains for bathing suits, and the "power squadron" hits the lakes, tubers and tooners become second class citizens with no rights.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But, if you can hit the water before daybreak, you can get some good walleye action, and then some cats and other stuff before the "sun worshippers" bring their toys. I have had some memorable days before 9 AM. Sometimes I leave the pandemonium and go to another smaller lake where I can get in some more fishing, if I am not done. You just gotta be committed and creative to get in your fishing.[/#0000ff]
