sand hollow report!!! with pics...
#1
hit SH yesterday, got there about 1:00 set up the tube and hit the water. in a fit of excitement i forgot my sunscreen[pirate]. it was 101 degrees and no clouds and i am a whole new color of red yet to be named by the fine folks at crayola!!!! but it was worth it. the water was lovely, no waders kept me kinda cool. anyway, i used my same favorite bait, green or white or any combo of the two colored senkos, with my same favorite results. lots of bass. bout 25 or 30 in 4 1/2 hours. not many bass boats on the water yesterday for some reason, maybe too hot[mad]...saw quite a few shore fishermen throwing spinners, cranks and other things to no avail. not too many from shore being caught. one guy came saw i was catching and waded out and started throwing right into my spot. he got NOTHIN!!!! but when he would reel in i'd toos my senko right where he just casted and pull in a fish. just small ones off the shoreline but he was getting mad and told me to stop showing off!!! so i floated ove to him and gave him a few senkos and next thing ya know, fishie on for him!!! gotta help a brotha out ya know. he was a happy camper after that.........anyway i got so red and my thumb was all jacked up from lipping the fish that i got off the water earlier than i had planned and i had a commitment sat. nite back home in vegas so i had to make this trip a 1 dayer[Sad]. i'll be back next weekend[Wink]
decided to risk taking the camera on the tube. it worked out and i didnt soak it so here are some pics......

Nice report. I tried SH a couple weeks ago but was blown away by the wind. I am heading down there the day after tomorrow to plot my revenge!

Sounds like the asassinator was true to the name! You need to get a kevlar thumb protector so the fishies don't burgerize your hand!

crazy as it sounds, i've had some of my best days from shore there in strong wind.....just gotta find a spot where you can cast with the wind and you can catch a lot. wind there is inevitable, just gotta learn to make do with it....

Wind I can handle, but that particular day it was like gale force. It was too much for me anyways. I had my small dome tent set up on the shore and the wind blew it over with my cooler inside, spilling ice and water over everything in there and mixing with the red sand-- quite the mess! Pulled the stakes right out. Whitecaps all over the lake and sand blowing everywhere including in my eyes. I can handle heat, cold, snow, rain, and all that other stuff, but high wind can really mess with me sometimes.....

oh man. i didnt realize it was that bad. i can fish or camp in any conditions but i HATE wind. when i first started going to sand hollow i figured it was just freak coincidence that it was always windy when i was there. then i figured out its always windy wheather or not im there. ive been blown off too but only when the sand starts to fly. if its not in my eyes i keep going.....good luck on your upcoming trip. i hope the elements cooperate man. its a great place when its not a hurricane down there. but i guess thats how that valley got its name......

[cool]Nice report, dude! Sounds like you really know how to slay those bucketmouths down there. Do you fish your senkos weightless, wackystyle, texas style, dropshot? Which way seems to work the best for you for them at S.H.? I'm a rookie bass fisherman, so I was just curious as to which works the best for you down there...

i prefer wieghtless. wackystyle is my favorite way to go cuz they hit em either right when they hit the water or on the way down a lot of the time so i just let em sink slow. if i dont get any hits before it settles to the bottom i just use the old twitch twitch reel in the slack method. works like a charm. i use the same methods at jordanelle for smallies but i also like my goto lure of a perch rapala up there. depends on location cuz at deer creek i seem to do better with texas rigged senkos with just a small bullet weight. im a rookie bass fisherman too. i just expirament a lot till i find what works......

[cool]Thanks for the tips, dude. Which perch rapala is your favorite? Do you mean a countdown or a taildancer, or which variety? Thanks for the great bassin' info!

nice pics bubba, i'ts on for next weekend.
if we get down there early enough friday, we'll have to hit the lake before sundown.
saturday we might have to be fashionably late for the reception. lol
it's at jay and donna's house so we won't have to drive far.
better yet, we could bring the reception to the lake. ha ha.

Sand Hallow sounds really nice except for the tempramental weather. From what I have been reading it sounds like you can camp right on the beach and fish out of your tent, am I right? What kind of fish do they have in Sand Hallow besides Bass?? Is it worth the trip from SLC to fish from shore and camp out?

ya you can camp right on shore. dont let the weather bug ya. its mstly nice all the time. just a little bit of wind as the day goes on but no big thing. its got largemouths and some really nice bluegill. i'd say it's worth the trip from slc if ya wanna catch some largies. its only 4 hours away. not too bad a drive for some good fishin and campin if ya ask me. pm troutfinger and ask him. he came down from slc a few weeks ago and fished with me and he will be back this weekend. also you could pm hunt4bigbucks hes been down a few times and loves it.

Very nice of you to give a red-hot bait to a fellow fisherman who has just tried to overtake your fishing spot. You must be a very nice guy.

Thanks for all the helpful information you so liberally share with us and for the the great report with pictures of some truly beautiful fish. I could look at pictures of lovely largies all day.

Well done.

sharing is caring man. im just trying to let all the folks up north know what we have goin on down here. i dont think anyone is coming from slc to overtake my spot[angelic]. hahaha!! i get to go there every saturday and sunday and catch more fishies outta that lake than you can shake a stick at. when i was tryin to learn how to catch largemouths i got a lot of helpful tips from the fine folks of BFT so i gotta return the favor. its good karma man....

I was at Sand hollow on sunday. The bass fishing was red hot i also caught 30 or more over a 6 hour of fishing most of them were 10 to 12 inches but i caught one at 4 pounds and a few at 2 pounds. I was fishing from shore just sight fishing. i walk about a mile along the shore line. i was using zooms. I was talking to the park ranger and she said on saturday that a ladie caught a 10 pound largemouth from shore. I will post pics when i find my attchment for my camara. I also fished at quil for 10 minutes and i caught one largemouth about 13 inches. Both of the lakes are beautiful.

a 10 pounder? i didnt think there had even been fish in there long enough for them to grow to ten pounds. and wouldn't that be a new state record? or fairly close anyway.......seems like a fish story from the lady to the ranger and on down to you. now quail i'd believe a 10 pounder in a heartbeat......
