Cat fishing Utah Lake 6-9-06
#1
Frozenover and I hit Utah Lake at 6:00 am this morning.
Within about 15 minutes we both had a cat fish in the basket.
James caught a 7.5 pounder and I caught a 3.5 pounder.

James with 7.5 pounder

It was the first cat fish we had caught there.
I caught a couple of mudcats and James caught another small channel cat.

Thanks to Tube Dude and Leaky for advice on how to catch this Utah Lake cats.

We hadn't been on the lake very long, when first part of the storm blew in. We were both pretty wet by the time we made it back to the truck. We sat in the cab of the truck for about an hour while the storm blew through, when the rain slowed down, we got back out on the lake and each of us caught a small cat.
The storm came back with a vengeance. The wind had switched directions and the rain came back.
We decided to call it a day. We were off the water by 10:00 am.

Congrats on getting some cats. Any chance you could make the pictures a tad larger?

The picture editor and I don't get along too well.
They were either very big or that small.
If any one has a good editor, please let me know. This is getting a little frustrating trying to resize them.

I tried it again, see if that is any better.

[cool][#0000ff]Glad you guys found some fish. Sounds like you had to battle the same weather conditions I had at Willard. As we discussed, I had planned to go south on Friday but changed my plans because of the weather. Glad I did. Gas is too expensive to waste on a long trip to play in a hurricane.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I'm guessing that you learned enough on that trip to help you score more in the future. Congrats on getting some to play. When the weather is nice and the cats are in there you can really get a lot of action.[/#0000ff]

I don't know if we are getting better at this game or just luckier.
I would like to try the float tube just one time without all of the wind.
I have been out in the tube about 6 times total, my waders have leaked from the start. I sealed and resealed the seams until I finally had them to the point they didn't leak any more.
Well, while out this last time, I noticed that as I am kicking, the right leg rubs against that side of the float tube. Just before we started back to the truck for the last time, I noticed my right leg was getting wet.
When I got home, I inspected my waders and found I have worn a hole completely through on that leg.
I am going to have to figure out a way either keep my leg away from that side or put something on that tube to keep it from rubbing a hole in my waders.
I am going to try and patch them one more time, if that doesn't work, new waders for Father's Day are in my future.
Thanks again for the advice on catching those Utah Lake cats.

[cool][#0000ff]I'm guessing that you have Hodgman waders. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have used a lot of different waders over the years. Some last a long time, without ever leaking...until the end. Others leak right out of the box. Waders that develop new leaks almost every trip are not worth keeping and patching. Once the "breathable" material starts to go, there is not much you can do to stay dry except replace the waders.[/#0000ff]

The set I have are Remington. They did come from Walmart years ago.
They are the neoprene waders and I am thinking you are very right. These aren't worth fighting with.
Every trip in the float tube, they have leaked. The trip to Strawberry at ice off was the worst. The water was 40 degrees and both feet were very cold.
