finley got my new boat together and ready for a big water trip..
so why not go to the place the boat knows best? it was a lake powell rental for most of it's life..
but now it's got some inprovements on it like a minn kota autopilot,a lowrance X135 finder, 2 new (used) Electric Riviera Downrigers ( thank's halojm), and a 6 hp johnson..
Now it's ready to fish..
got to the lake around 5:30 sunday night.. got the boat ready and in the water.. right as i was pulling out of the water a dude pulled out about 6 slots up the ramp.. cool i pulled it to that spot and was back in the boat in no time..
we went down lake to a area we camp in by lake canyon.. set up camp and went to see if we could catch some dinner..
went to a rock pile just up lake.. my buddy wanted walleye for dinner so thats what i was fishing for.. well only 1 eye came in that night for me, 0 for him.. lol so he had catfish while i had walleye for dinner..
we did catch alot of stripers there as well.. most are small around 6 to 12 inch's but about every 30 min's or so some 22 to 26 inchers would come rolling through.. and they hit the jig and worm just as good as anchoves..
next day.. first thing we hit the rock pile again.. he still wanted a Walleye dinner.. lol..
so affter i hit 4 or 5 eye in the first houre and he still had not got one yet the small stripers moved in over the pile and we could not get our bait jig or any thing down past them.. i fineley talked him into so trolling for bigger stripes.. we trolled back to halles crossing stoped in the store for some ice and bait and off again.. from there we headed down to lake canyon. last year around this time we did real good on some big 7 to 10 lbs stripers down there.
well after spending some time getting there we checked out some of the places that last year had fish.. not much going on as far as stripers go but did get in the underwater tree's there in the back of lake canyon and got some bluegilles sunfish and some cat's.. a little shade and smimming time in to..
well back to the finding of fish.. we ended the night fishing a diffrent rock pile.. he still wanted a eye.. he started fish for eye's and i went for whatever.. lol i put a swim bait on and started working the area over.. i hit 7 or 8 smalley's a whole bunch of strips and 2 eye's.. he got a whole bunch of strips and some cat's.. lol still no eye dinner for him!!
next day was about the same we starded out for waleye on the rock's. and this time it was his turn to get a eye.. first fish cough was a eye for him.. so now he finley got the eye he was happy for a while..
left there to head to the store for ice and bait again.. well after catching the Eye now my buddy was on a black bass kick. i said ok after we get done in the store i know of a area there in bullfrog bay that is good black fishing..
we beat the water for the next 5 houres in the back bay's of Bullfrog for black bass.. i got, i dont know how meny smalley's and strips all small. 4 eye's and 1 black bass.. my buddy got alot a smalleys and strips.. no blacks or eye's..
well back to the rocks for the evening bite.. the bite was about the same as evey night..
the rest of the trip went about the same lot's of fish the stripers were on tap all day long, as long as you can put up with catching 20 6 to 8 inchers to every 1 20 + incher..
had a great time down there.. the big W was not bad tell the yesterday and it was a all day thing yesterday so we pulled up camp and trolled back to bullfrog.. we cought about 10 stripers trolling back and right as i told my buddy reel up lets go my pole went off one last time.. and guess what it was? lol yep a Walleye.. lol
he ended the trip with only 1 Eye.. but the fishing was great wether was good and everything on the new boat worked great.. so that as good a trip as one can ask for..
oh how about the pic's..
