Flaming Gorge with TarponJim
#1
Fished with TarponJim on wed 6-14-06. Jim is a great guide who despite some good wind put me on alot of fish. Had at least a dozen bites. But only was able to hook two. Nothing huge but decent 19 and 22 lb fish. My instinct too just set the hook instead of using Jim's hookset method cost me a couple of hookups. These fish spook real fast if you make the slightest error in your presentation. Jim really knows these fish and what it takes to catch them. We got blown off the lake about 10:45. Attached are pics of the 19 and 22lb and some of the local wildlife.

[black]Can I relate to that! LOL! It's a hard habit to change. Did you experience the dreaded "terminal lock up" syndrome? I hate that and I'm good for it at least once an outing. [/black][black]Too bad the wind came up so soon. At least you got hooked up. Nice fish![/black]

I had a couple instances of terminal lock up. I was concentrating on keeping the jigging action right that the bite would happen and no response from me.

[black]You're concentrating on jig presention. You see the hit but you don't react. Your mind panics, knowing you need to do something and you finally make a feeble attempt at a hook set that is so late you'd of been better off fishing through it rather than causing the big commotion a hook set can create and screw up the situation. I hate when it happens![/black]

I've already done that multiple times while vertically jigging with you at Bear Lake. If you have difficulty with it I can only imagine what a challenge that I would have!

when I was up there with Jim I had one fish come back and give my another chance. the first hit was so light that I just kinda locked up, and asked Jim, did you see that and we had about decided that it was just a look and we were making a joke about it and the next thing I know, bang, yanked the pole tip down at least 2in. and that starttled me so bad by the time I could think about it, it was over and I never even set the hook again. lots of fun though.
