Willard Solo 17 June
#1
Well finally made my first boat trip to Willard this year. Got a late start and didn't get on the water until almost 9. Trolled from the south marina up to the feed lot with nothing. Turned around and started getting some hits finally got a small cat. Continued south and picked up a walleye just shy of 20 inches. Went all the way down to the southeast corner with not hits so decided to shoot across to the west side quick. Switched from bottom bouncers to a rattlin rapala and a jointed shad rap size 5 in shad color. Went about 3/4 of the way down the west side with one hit then hooked a 15 inch walleye on the jointed shad rap right before I got to the light pole. Continued almost all the way to the north marina then worked my way back upto the lightpole with no hits. Headed across the middle back towards the north marina and started trolling again with a bottom bouncer and the jointed shad rap. Had a few real good hits on the shad rap but no hook ups. Right where the weeds end and turns to rock picked up my first wiper ever about 15-16 inches on the bottom bouncer. Continued down towards the feedlot and picked up another cat on bottom bouncer and missed a few more good hits on the shad rap. Turning the corner by the feedlot and heading due south seen some boils so tried the shad rap with no luck and tied on a dressed castmaster. Hit the 4th good boil I saw and got my second wiper 19 incher. So nothing like some of the guys do but I was happy. Only the 2nd and 3rd walleyes I have caught in Utah and my first 2 wipers. Will post pics tomorrow not sure how to download from the camera to the computer yet gotta have the wife do it.

[cool][#0000ff]Sounds like you covered a lot of water but at least you got some reward for it. Heck, another 40 or 50 trips and you will have them dialed in.[/#0000ff]

Great report there icing_perch. Nice to hear of a few boils starting up already. I hope the shad had a good spawn this year. The drought was really tough on them. They spawn in the rocks, and for a couple of years in a row, there were really no rocks to spawn in!

I went out yesterday to Willard as well. Ended up with eleven Wipers and two Walleye. I went out with my brother and had a great time. My wife and kids are on vacation visiting relatives and I still had a great Fathers Day. Most of the Wipers were caught on Rattlin Raps, White with orange belly, chrome with blue back and orange belly, chrome with black back, most in size five. Some others were caught with a Silver with black back Shad rap, size seven, and a diving white crank that accounted for the Walleye and a couple Wipers. It was a hot day on the water, remeber to take plenty of water, also the bugs were out in full force at times, it is so nice when the breeze picks up. Everyone have a great day.John R.[Smile][Smile]
