I got down on the Jordan River last night just below the pumphouse, just like I wanted to do. Got there around 5, and walked down a good mile to the hole I wanted to fish.
Got there, set up, and put out. After about 10 minutes I got my first bite, a little mud cat. Threw him back and recasted. I walked back up the bank to rig up my mini rod for the smaller fish. When I looked back my pole was dang near in the water. Set the hook, and fish on! After 10 minutes, and quite a few blistering runs, I got the big boy in. 27", and around 7#'s. My first channel fish of the night. He bit on a chunk of worm.
I figured I'd still cast out the mini rod. That cat had to be a fluke. I poped a nice mudder, then my line went slack again. I let him take it, then set the hook. This one had shoulders. Fighting him on 4# line was a bugger. Finally I got him up. 24", around 5#'s. That one took a minnow.
Now I was totally pumped. Nice big channels and it wasn't even night! Next few bites were smaller channels and mud cats. I threw my heavier rod back out, and about 5 minutes later I had another killer bite. This one took off and nearly got to the other side of the river. Finally I managed to get him back in. Another big fish. 26", around 6-7#'s.
After night set in it seemed like the smaller fish came out more. I finished up the night with one more 18" channel, and about 10 or 15 8-14" mudders and channels.
It was a great night out there last night. I need to fish that more often. It was amazing! Only bad part was carying the rope stringer out a mile. [pirate] I gotta say my hands are killing! Most of the fish bit on worms, but a few bit on minnows, too. Nothin on white bass, carp or shrimp for some reason or another.
