Ponds off I-80?

Hey all, haven't posted in ages. Finally got a 'tube, and was wondering about the ponds off I'80 that are supposedly full of bluegill and bass. How do I get there, what species do they hold, and recommendations for lures to use? Thanks!

If your talking about the ponds between the freeway and the gr. salt lake, you pull off at the view area right by point of the mountain, park and hike down the trail, careful though, the ponds are full of bass and bluegill, and mercury.

I don't think that's the one. They are just off of I80 before you go around the smokestack towards Tooele. I'm just not sure which ones the are.....

Their full of little bass and blue gill. Especially the gills. I fished out there a few weeks ago in my toon and nailed a whole bunch or 4-6"ers. From what I saw that's about all that's there...

I used to fish that pond when i was in High school about 7 years ago. It used to be alot of fun in a tube. I would catch little gills, crappie, bass and even chubs. Every once in a while i would catch a 3-4 # large mouth in there man was that fun on a light rod. i used to use a banjo minnow or something similar that had a life like motion.

I would like to get out there again but with the amount of mercury and spiders that inhabit the trees i think it will find a new place to catch the gills.

Mercury doesn't need to be an issue, just make sure to C&R. Now spiders on the otherhand....[]

I was out there in my toon last night. The moss has darn near reached the surface on half the pond. I'm only in the water up to my calf so it wasn't a problem but a tube may be a little tricky, make sure your fins are on good. I caught some small bass and a couple 12"ers but it seems that the big un's have been taken home for fried mercury snacks. The surface looked like it was raining with all the gills eating bugs, should have brought my fly pole.
Does anyone know who "owns" that? UDOT?

I stopped a few days ago to look at the ponds by the viewpoint. I couldnt imagine dragging a toon in and out and over that pipe. which pond do you guys fish, east or west or both?

What about that pond west of the marina just before the big rock hill in the GSL. It is under the overpass on by the tracks. Just a stones throw from your ponds. I saw a ton of carp in there slurping the same day.

Getting the toon down there isn't a problem, throw it on the shoulder with the tubes sticking straight up. Net and fins in the seat, poles in the other hand. Walk down the path, set it on the pipe, jump the pipe, grab the gear, go fish.
Walking down a path is easy, it's always the return trip from a "voyage" where nobody else fishes tired legs, breaking trail and stirring up bugs with both hands full, gnats flying in your nose....anyways...
I fish (or used to I suppose) the pond to the right of the view area, the left is entirely covered with moss but also holds fish. The ponds to the East? hold fish, I've seen carp a plenty but few bass and gills. I don't know about the one under the overpass though, where the tracks are, I've checked several times but have never seen any fishies.
I've only kept one fish out of those ponds, 4 years back, lmb just over 6 1/2# it's now on my wall. My only skin mount. I feel a little guilty for keeping such a great fish but now I know about fiberglass mounts and how much nicer they are. Pluse they actually come out like the fish you took a picture of. I'm getting off the subject. Drop me a pm, we'll go out there.
