Pineview Perch
#1
[Smile] This is my first post! Glad to be on board. Has there been any reports of decent size perch at Pineview. Before the drought there was pretty good perch to be had but the last few years its been pretty bleak. Thanks!

Welcome!

I have fished Pineview a lot this year, and have yet to even catch a perch. I don't know what the deal is. I think they had their 1st really good spawn last year following the drought. I think if we give it a year or 2 (with plenty of water) we'll see the panfish population start to grow. I think with the musky and bass in their, we won't have a problem with stunted fish either.

If you don't mind driving a bit, Starvation is kicking out some nice perch 10-12 inches. Use a small 1/8 oz. jig with a piece of worm trailing in 10 to 15 feet of water. You will also pick up walleye 12-18 inches on this rig and an occasional bass.[Smile]

WOW!It didn't take you long to figure it out. Thanks for turning me on to this sight.I hit Porcupine for a few hours on my way back from Idaho on Mon. I marked some nice schools from 25' to 48' in the usual spots but nothing was happening.Just hit the wrong time of day. I may be up there on Sun.

[cool]I haven't heard any reports of perch success on the softwater this year. HOWEVER, there were a lot of reports during this past ice-fishing season of perch and crappie success (mostly perch though, and some crappies). Pineview is definitely starting to come back with the perch. You can do some research by utilizing the "search" icon up above to look up some of those reports, or look at the Pineview archive page on this board to see those.

It's my belief that Pineview's perchery is on it's way back, and I plan on ice fishing it at least a few times this winter since Rockport's perch population has had a bit of a crash last year.

Yes, I agree. Now that the water is up, it gives the perch a place to spawn in the submerged trees and there should be an upswing in fishing. I love the look on my kids' faces when they get one up and a tiger comes out from under the boat and grabs it!They're not on for long but it's sure fun to watch!

I have not tried fishing for perch since ice-off, but over this past winter perch fishing was a lot of fun. The perch are on there way up, and I am excited to fish it this next winter. The biggest perch that I caught over the winter was just under 10 in. and 6 to 7 in. being the average. I also managed a few crappie. Also I caught a lot of perch, about my limit every time. Hope this helps,

Rabid Fisher

[cool]If you are after perch in numbers, don't forget about Jordanelle (often referred to on this site as "Lake X"), or Mantua. You can really get into 'em at those two lakes!
