Causey, The South Fork, and the View 6/23
#1
My brother was camping with his girlfriend up on the South fork. He called me last night and said he was nailing the browns. That's all it took for me to load up the Toon and head up there.

I got on the South Fork with him at around 6:30 this morning. We both got around 10 or so browns, and a few small Splake. Not that great, but still decent. Around 8 we packed up and flipped a coin: Heads, Pineview, tails Causey. It was tails.

Got up to Causey pretty quick. Nice little lake. First time I've tried it. Started chucking lures off of the dam. My brother got a little splake pretty quick. Then I got one. Then his girlfriend got 2. I figured what the heck, I'll take the toon out here. Got out to a nice rocky drop off and started marking large schools of fish pretty quick. Probably Kokes. I just couldn't get them to bite, though. I tried jigging, running spinners and spoons over them, and even bait. Nothin worked. Finally I got sick of it and left there about 12.

Headed down to Pineview. Had a quick lunch and got there around 1. I wanted a Muskie so bad, but I knew prime time had gone a long time ago. I launched the Toon by the old highway on the north side and started drifting a bay I know usually has fish in it. I drug a worm on the bottom and chucked a buzz bait. Nothin for about an hour. Then I decided to switch over to small mouth. I was working the cove pretty well with a 3" brown curl tail when I finally got a bite. Set the hook, and the drag started screaming. I figued I didn't have half a chance on 6# line with a decent Muskie. I did, though. He turned out to be 29" long. Good thing he didn't take the jig the entire way! It was nice to have my brother there to help, I'll tell you what. He wasn't getting wet until he realized what I had. Then he got wet clear up to his chest. Funny what a decent muskie will do. I pitched that same jig untill about 5, and picked up 5 Smallies and 1 Largie.

Nice day to be out. I'm kind of sea sick from pineview, though. Those boats and skies sure do chop up the water. Kind of like being on the ocean. Now I get to go back up and do it all again tomorrow...

That's cool you picked up some fish. The muskies will eat just about anything the smallies will. My first of the year was on a green Gitzit. The boats do chew it up pretty bad and the fish respond accordingly most of the time. Was it your first tiger? Pics?

Lh2- That one was my 3rd tiger, and biggest so far. What a rush! I wish I had pictures. I don't dare take my digital out on my pontoon after I soaked it the last time.[Sad]

Tkb- The largie was about 10". Not really huge, but it was nice to catch one outta Pineview again.

Cwf- The brownies weren't too big. One went 17" and about a pound and a half. Mostly 10-14"ers.
