Took the toon to lindon last night with the intentions of pulling a late night cat fest. Hit the water about 7ish and headed north out of the marina. Had a few pop and drops right off the bat but no hook ups. Finally while I was rebaiting one rod the other started ripping line. I let the fish run for a while and finally got the hard good hook set. The fish came in pretty easy and I figured just a small channel, that was until it got under the toon. Then all heck broke loose and he kept stripping drag and running between my legs under the toon, spun me around several time. Definately the best fight I've had in a while. When he finally came to the net it was a nice 6lb kitty that had manage to swallow my circle hook all the way to his butt hole, thought that wasn't supposed to happen with circle hooks.
Things were going great up until dark, I had hooked and released a few smaller cats and the bite seemed to be picking up; then right after dark the swarm of bugs that had been gaining members over my head all of a sudded decided to attack. Now the typical UL and willard bugs I can handle. I don't mind a few crawlers and bugs flying in my ears and nose, but this was like a remake of The Birds. I have never experienced anything like it, millions of bugs crashing my face from every angle. I quickly pulled in both lines and made a bee line for the harbor. The bugs were so bad that I had to stick my face in my shirt to even breathe. Once inside the harbor the bugs seems to return to a tolerable swarm. I ended up taking the 6lber home for dinner and releasing the rest, all fish were taken on carp meat.
