Yuba report 6/24
#1
Went to Yuba yesterday for the first time. Nice place and bigger than I expected. Took my two boys (age 3 and 7) and my dad. We launched about 8 at the state park and trolled toward the dam and then headed north and east. We trolled for about an hour using rapala's, spinners, castmasters, flatfish, and a jakes without any results. We marked lots of fish in some areas. The kids were getting bored so we anchored in an area that we marked a lot of fish. A nightcrawler about 3 feet off the bottom (in 16 feet deep) made for nonstop action on 4-7 inch pearch anywhere near the reeds. They would hit it a fast as we could drop it. Helped keep the kids interested for awhile. They are all still pretty small but it didn't matter since they all have to be immediately released anyway. We tried a new spot along a rocky bank without any reeds and were able to catch 10 rainbows in the next 2 hours on worms and powerbait. We were anchored in 30 feet deep and fishing toward shore in about 15-25 foot depths. Smallest was about 12 inches and largest about 18 inches and maybe 2 pounds (caught 4 this size). Water was about 67 degree's at launch and 71 when we left. Weather was hot and a quick swim off the back of the boat every hour and the boats bimini top made it very tolerable. It looks like a nice place to camp and bring the family. Lots of skiers, boarders, and tubers but lots of room for everyone. I wished I had brought my wakeboard since the water was glassy at some times during the day. A fun day to be on the water.

[cool][#0000ff]Good report. Glad the younguns had fun. Those Yuba 'bows really put up a tussle, don't they? Wait until the eight pounders start hitting in the fall again. You can take them on flies too.[/#0000ff]
