Took my son out to the ogden river today. That was bad idea #1. He had waders so I thought we could stay along the bank and he would be ok, bad idea #2. The water is still up just a little bit from normal. There is also a ton of moss floating down the river. I had to clean the hook on every cast. With the higher water, I had to carry him alot, bad idea #3. I didn't put on my felt soles for my boots and left the lug soles on, Really bad idea #1. Those rocks are very slippery!!! I didn't fall in but there were numerous times I had one foot floating and one spinning. Add 50lbs on one hip and that equalls a very sore back. Oh by the way the fishing sucked! I tried every one of my sure fire spinners and rapalas and I had one hit by a fish that was barely as big as the spinner. I don't know why the fishing was bad, (that was the first time I have been skunked there in years), but I would guess that the floating moss isn't helpng any. I saw alot of bugs out but never saw a fish rise.

Bad idea #4. Not coming up with any big fish stories to entertain us. Too bad about the fishing, I haven't fished the Ogden in years. How was the water clarity with the high water?

That's to bad. I hit the river on friday and it was higher than when I went last Wednesday, but I managed to pick off a brown or two on a prince nymph fished deep. Wednesday I was catching quite a few on a size 18 hare's ear and prince. Fish were rising on friday, the water was just a little high and slightly off color. Oh, I did manage to pluck two more spinners out of the bushes. I have quite a collection going.

Well I was wanting to fly fish but when I asked my son what he wanted to do he said he wanted to fish with rapalas ans spinners. 10 minutes after we were there he was board with casting and I fished the rest of the time. He just wanted to net one. Guess I should have taken the fly rod instead, Oh well there is always next time.
