my Boy's first Twilight trip..
#1
well finley got back from my vaction the other day.. glad to be home but enjoyed the trip.. Seaworld was a blast.. spent some time fishing the beach's as my boy's played in the waves.. cought lot's and skate's, shovelnoe's,sharks and some perch.. keep it fun for dad to watch the boy's and fish at the same time..

well i only got to go out on the charter once this trip..it was a fun Twilight on the Sum fun out of dana piont.. this was the first trip on the Big blue pond for tommy and he was so excited to be going..
got on the boat got the stuff setteld in place.. the boat went over to the bait barge to get bait.. i seen some small berry's running around the recever.. so i put a blue and white UFO candybar on tommys poll and casted it right over by the recever.. handed to poll to him and said reel as fast as you can... he grabed the poll and started cranking as fast as he could.. but he still could not keep a berry from catching him.. it hit so hard it about pulled the pole out of his hands.. lol i was laughing the deckhand was not as amused as i was tell he seen i knew how to get them off the hook with out tuching them.. for those that have never cought one, they are the most slimey'est slime rockit you'll ever see..

ok well that was fun but it was not big enugh to keep and i let it go before thinking i should get a pic.. darn it..

we left there to head to the fishing grounds.. about 5 miles up cost..

got there i set tommy up with a jig and squid... and i was casting the candybar,,

tommy stayed busy with calico's on his jig.. but i could not get any more berry's to come in on the candybar..

so i went to a swim bait and started calico fishing as will.. the jig's were doing good on the smaller bass but the toad's were comeing in on live bait.. so tommy asked if i could hook him up for that.. sure why not i said got him rigged up to flyline a deen..

thats when the fun started.. lol i had to keep telling my boy he was not getting a bite it was just the sardeen running on him.. i said you will know when a fish has got it when it try's to pull the poll out of your hand.. lol and again for the 2nd time that day a fish did just about pull the poll right out of his hands..lol..

well we had a great time catching calico's the guy's on the boat did a great job! fish were on tap from start to finish of the trip..

now tommy think's he is ready for the a 3 to 5 day tuna trip? lol we will have to see about that..lol

got some pic's not to many tho.. to bussy fishing!!

Ron, it may be a little difficult to get Tommy back into catching those wimpy cutts at Electric Lake after catching all of those sea-going fish. Sounds like a fun trip.

Sound like you a great time on vacation. It is always fun to see the young ones get hooked on fishing, I am a firm believer that it will help keep them out of trouble in the years to come and it keeps them close to you during those fun years. How ever I started a bad habit with my son who is 4 years old. My daughter is 8 and has been my fishing buddy for a few years and can handle a skunked trip better then I, but to keep my son interested the first time we got skunked I took him to the trout farm and let him at it. Since then when we pack up the sponge bob pole he just wants to head to the fish farm. But at least he like to catch some fish.
Great post, glad to hear you had fun.

Thanks for sharing. The Smile on a kids face after catching fish is priceless. I can't wait to have my boy and girl out there with me. [Smile]

Those Calico's are mighty tasty, great for grilling.

Now you gotta get your son out when the Yellowtail or White Sea Bass are running...you better strap him to the rail though, or you might lose him!

Gotta love those Smiles!

Lots of fun, huh? My son and I did DanaWharfSportfishing off Dana Point a few years ago. We did the mid-morning one and had a blast. We caught rock bass, mackerel, kelp fish, and some other ugly critters right off the kelp beds. He had what he stated was the best cheeseburger ever in the galley of our boat. And it wasn't all that expensive for 4 hours - about $70 total for the 2 of us.
