Arctic Grayling Report
#1
Didn't end up with any takers on joining Billy (Tincanfsh) and me arctic grayling fishing so we loaded up the Taurus (wow -- only used $15 of gas!) and headed out this morning. Only fished for grayling 1/2 of the day and then tried another lake for some cutts and brookies (should have stayed and kept fishing for grayling). I ended up with 23 grayling and 7 brookies and Billy caught about 1/2 as many. First grayling I have caught and I was impressed with how hard they fight and they are a unique looking fish. Most were 8 to 10 inches and the largest was just under 12 inches. I managed to leave my fishing vest in the car so I was limited to using one fly (Billy graciously loaned me one). Caught most of the grayling on flies using my Uintah Fly Rod and I caught 5 on Billy's real fly rod (first fish I have caught on a flyrod and it was a blast). BTW - in case anyone is wondering, all fish are still swimming to be caught again.

Congrats on getting a few of the sailing fish Kent! They are pretty cool looking. Not a ton of color in them, but they are unique. I'll bet you are tired after that hike though.

I got one or two pictures on my new-to-me camera before leaving the camera on for a few minutes and running down the battery. If I can figure out how to get the pictures off I will post them.

i to had a chance to fish for grayling this weekend. i wonder if we were at the same lakes? those suckers were sure aggressive. my fly would hit the water and sometimes 2 or 3 would come from 10 feet away to nail it. it was a blast. i landed over 50 in half a day. they weren't big, but their beauty made up for it. here's a pic.

Thanks for the report. It sounds like you had a good time. I love lake "Nameless". It is great day trip. Do you want a return visit? I promised a co-workers significant other that I would take him there this summer, and will be going in a few weeks. A couple more are welcome to join.

I have posted this before, but this is my daughter with her first grayling caught from lake "N".
