shore fishing with kids....
#1
So, I've been a boat fisherman basically my entire life. Now that I have kids, and I don't have ready access to a boat, where is a good place to take the kids on a Saturday to learn how to fish, where they can acutally catch something? My parents have taken them on their boat to Deer Creek and Rockport, but they haven't caught anything (probably kind of hard with a 7 and 4 year old).

Uintahs are a sure bet or some of the local fishing ponds always produce.

almost any lake off the mirror lake highway would be good. also the community ponds are stocked heavily with very catchable fish. try some power bait, or worms and bobbers. if you need specific help on setting these rigs up let me know. but, from the sounds of it you have been fishing for a long time. im sure you know the basics. one thing to try in the uintas is a fly behind a bubble. this is a great way for kids to learn. (its how i learned to fish) my dad would cast out for us and then let us reel in slowly and wait for the strike. as we got older we learned how to cast ourselves.

good luck, and let us know if you would like specific rig set ups.

Go to Mantua and fish for bluegill. I went out Sunday the 9th and saw lots of nice sized fish. I was fishing for bass and did pretty good. Caught 13 with two about 15 inches. Fish from the rocks just outside of the dock and you should be able to catch the bluegill. And if you feel like trying for bass put on a blue and chrome rattle trap and you probably catch some and good luck.

E-lake is a good place to take kids.Lots of shoreline on the boat ramp side and the fish usually cooperate.Worm and marshmellow or bobber works great there.theres cutts and bows in there. Not many bows but tons of 12-18 inch cutts. Some days its non stop catching .Good luck wherever you go.

Where do you live? Mantua is great for fishing with kids. You can fish the shore and get a little bit of everything they have in there. Usually you can get some rather nice sized gills from shore.
I take my grandkids there all the time.

Mantua is great for kids. Usually from the shore they can catch a ton of 'gills and perch. Just throw a bobber 3-4' above a worm and wait 10 seconds.

[cool]I "FOURTH" what the others have said on MANTUA. If you go to the West shoreline by the boat docks and do what lavaman said, you'll have those kids into fish in no time. The fishing stays decent during the daytime, but your most successful part of the day will be in the early a.m. and obviously from about 6:00 pm til dark. You should still get some in the middle of the day (if you can stand the 100 degree temps being forcasted for this weekend). Good luck up there, and let us know how you did!
