Jared, after that trip reeling in those sockeyes at FG probably won't be quite as much fun. Looking forward to the pictures.

Sockeye, isn't it amazing how hard those tuna can pull with tail fins so small. Those fish are all muscle and they can kick your tail. I do busines with the Holiday Bowl and have taken the time to tuna fish after some business trips. What a kick. You are right, it is flat out awesome. I have always caught albacore, blue fin and yellowtail. I would love to get into the yellowfin (ahi steaks!!) That is a trip of a lifetime. The mahi mahi isn't too bad either. Send us some pics and also, tell us what charter you went with. I have always sailed with Pacific Charters. They are great. On one 2 day trip we boated over 170 albacore with 15 on board. Fire drills all day long. I have an amazing fish sauce for you to make for your tuna. It's called "Wasabi Lime Sauce" and it was taught to me by the chefs at Top of the Market in San Diego. Good eating!

Sure, I can tell you how to make the famous fish sauce.
Wasabi Lime Sauce
1 cube of Butter - melted in double boiler on low
(Note:do not let the butter break)

1/4 cup soy
1 whole lime squeezed
reduce soy and lime to 1/2 then add to melted butter

Add 1 heaping tablespoon of cilantro to butter
Add wasabi - ball about the size of large grape
1 heaping tablespoon of mayonase
Add about 1/2 tablespoon of shallots

This can keep in the double boiler on very low heat for hours

This sauce is by far the best sauce for tuna, halibut and salmon that I have ever tasted. Enjoy

This sounds great. I'll have to try it on the next batch of trout I catch (or the next slab of salmon I buy from Sam's).

Sure sounds like a great trip Jared. I've not had the chance to fish the ocean for any species, but one day I'd love to make it out and chase some really big fish! Good luck on your next trip down there.
