Frozenover and I hit the west side this morning. We were on the water before the sun came up.
From the launch point, I went to the south to try a fish around some reeds out in the water and Frozenover headed north.
There was a slight breeze, it was enough to create some pretty big rollers. I have got to get an anchor system set up on my poontoon. After a few hours of kicking and no bites, I tied up to some reeds to rest for a bit. I did get two good bites, one held on long enough to let me reel it almost to the boat and was even taking drag, I guess I just didn't set the hook well enough, because he came off. The next one took me into the gunk and broke the line.
I called James to see how he was doing and he had two good cats in the basket, so I started heading his way. The wave action was far less going to the north.
As I got closer to him, he let me know he had 4 cats in the basket. I didn't even have one fish in the basket.
As I was working my way north, two airplanes came over. Both were very small planes, but the weird thing was, the first plane was flying the edge of the lake and was just off the top of the reeds. He was below the level of the trees. James wondered if he was trying to touch the water with his wheels. The plane right behind the first was only about 50' high.
I picked up my first fish at 9:45 and it was a white bass. I caught a fair cat and while I was rerigging the bobber, I dropped the chunk of minnow down between my flippers, just as I picked it up, another white bass grabbed it and took off.
I made it over to James and borrowed a couple of split shot to help get my bait down on the bottom alitte better.
Once I got rigged with the weights, it was game on.
I ended up catching 6 cats with the biggest being 11.5 lbs. I caught one 7, two 6 pounds, one 5 and one about 4 pounds.
All in all a very good day.
James caught a limit of cats, two 7 pounders, two 6 pounders and two 5 pounders and two smaller cats.
I was a litte suprized that we didn't catch a mudcat.
We got off the water at about 2:00 pm. We stayed out a little too long. Even though we both drank quite a bit of water, we were both a little dehydrated.
The skiers did come over and make a visit. One came by very close twice, they wanted us to watch his trickes on the wake board.
When we reached the shore, I weight my basket, it went just over 37 pounds. A very good day.
After my last trip, Tubedude told me I needed a bigger basket. It was good thing I went to Sportsman's last night a picked one up, the cats I caught today wouldn't have fit in my last basket.
