[#002850]Well, with the cooler weather, I decided to hit Willard tonight. So after picking up my neighbor Mike and his daughter Heather, we headed for the pond watching the wind and clouds coming in to challenge us. We launched at the south marina around 6:30. As we were leaving the marina, we seen most boats coming in. Didn’t take but a few minutes to see why … 2-3 foot waves and caps. We decided to keep going and try to catch a few wipers anyway. Fishing was slow. Then the waves eased up a little and Heather’s poll started to dance. With a little prompting from Dad, she was determined to not let it get away and bring it to the boat. Once it got to the net, we could see it was a nice one. [/#002850]

Not a bad 3 ½ lb. wiper. She was pretty proud. [/#002850]

She caught it on an old beat up Producer. Then the wind and waves shut off and a nice gentle warm rain stayed with us the rest of the night. From that time on, we had the lake to our selves.
We didn’t catch any more fish the rest of the night. Heather skunked us two guys … I love that …
We seen a few boils but they were only 5-10 second boils and we weren’t able to keep a hook in the few that gave us bites. We seen plenty of rises down north of the light post but we couldn’t get them to bite. But at the cleaning station, a couple of guys had had pretty good luck down in that area. They said that they caught theirs on “anything silver that floats”. I’m thinking some Spooks might be the ticket or some poppers. However, I tried poppers the other night and got nothing then.
Boy, them wipers are giving me a run for my money this year.
Oh well, it was good to get out in the nice cool weather today. And I sure enjoyed fishing with Mike and Heather … they are good people.[/#002850]
