I guess I messed up on my post. I just bought an 18' Wellcraft center console with a 115hp Mercury. It has been sitting in an indoor storage unit for 7 years. It has been started 3 times during that period. I know I need to put a waterpump on it, but what other preventive maintenance would you suggest before turning the key for the first time in a long time? Thanks for your help!

Tomc may be better at this but I'd have a good boat yard check for cracked hoses and run it for awhile to see if the carb maybe a problem. Like a car it's not good to sit for too long. Change all filters before hand.

WOW.,7 years thats a long time, since its been sitting that long, and you want to salt water fish, you would be better off giving it to a good boat yard and have them go through it top to bottom.if you have a built in tank, the gas is most likly junk, even a fuel stabilizer wouldnt last that long,so it is in need of pumping out and disposed of properly, the carbs should be taken apart and cleaned and readjusted, spark plugs replaced, wireing checked, water pump replace.,change lower end oil
one other thing if you do have a built in tank,i am not sure if cali has ethenol fuel.but if it does check to see if yours is fiberglass,if so that will need to be replaced aswell because the new gas will eat the reisin in the fiberglass and screw up the motor.

i am sorry for the bad news, but this is safer in the long run,it sucks breaking down out in the ocean, and paying to get towed in

I just talked with the guys at Wellcraft headquarters and they said they never made boats with fiberglass tanks as long as they've made boats. Good news. Thanks for the help
